Hi, I need to be able to cook for myself while holidaying in Bali, and normally use a whisperlite stove. This uses white gas (liquid). Does anyone know if this can be purchased in Bali? If not, what type of camping stoves (little ones for back packers) do people use? Thanks

Yes, they are available here. Some people call them "cassette fuel stoves". I bought one a few years ago for a camping trip to Baluran National Park (in east Java). It has a single burner and uses canned LPG, (220 gm).I don't know how much the stove costs now - mine was around Rp 100,000 (about $10), and came with a solid moulded carrying case. Probably a bit more now.The gas cans cost about $2 or $3 a pop, but last quite well (depends how much you cook and for how long). We still use ours occasionally, and keep some spare gas cans handy.Oh...and you can usually find the stoves in larger supermarkets, or places like Lotte Mart (which most people still call "Makro").Finding "camp sites" on Bali might be more of a problem, if you're thinking about camping.:icon_biggrin:

Fuel for cars has additives and is then coloured orange or blue or whatever. In UK and Aust, white gas is often sold as Shellite, and in the US as Coleman fuel. It is also called white spirit or naphta - and I think lighter fluid is the same. I used to have one of those stoves, they are very compact, and unlike camp stoves that use methylated spirits, they work OK with a bit of a wind around. I often used it with unleaded petrol, with no problems. But maybe using leaded petrols is not such a good idea. I don't know if Indonesian Premium fuel is leaded, I suspect it is.I have not searched the shops here for it, but I guess you will find it - hopefully with one of those names.
