Some might say 'hey, I'm an expat and I'd prefer less tourism" but the problem needs to be highlighted at the highest levels if this island is to survive. I believe there was a very good article in Time last year (paradise lost?). anyone got the link?

And he was surfing at Padang2.....one of the cleaner spots. He'd be horrified to have surfed the rivermouth at Canguu or the creek mouth at Keramas over the last few months. Nothing will change as long as the rivers are treated as the public waste disposal system, and that requires a major overhaul of infrastructre costing millions and the re-education of a nation. Simply not going to happen, no one in Bali is going to elect a governor who attempts to use the Lions share of public funds on rubbish collection when there are so many other pressing issues in Bali. Not only that, he'd never get the backing of his fellow members to actually get it budgeted. There are still exceptionally unspoilt beaches in Indo, there just getting harder to find.
