I use an agent as my car is registered in the south [so thats where I have to pay the tax] and I live in the north.So... yes, that figure you quote sounds expensive and the length of time seems ridiculous.

Hi Lindsey, why you not check the STNK (Surat Tanda Nomor Kendaraan Bermotor), the last paper is the registration document, there you can see the amount you've to pay (in case you are late you might have to pay some extra money + some cash if you use an agent)2 years, how long you've the car, if case it's less the old owner might not pay his share, in case It's more: did you pay the tax last time :icon_wink:? a Honda Jazz (1,5 litre) costs around 2 million / year (PKB)...a Harley costs more than 5 million / year but @Mat: less than 1 million for a car?you can see in your STNK the sentence "berlaku sampai" (valid till), there you've to check the date!cheers marc

7 million, for 5 years worth of tax on a 2007 Jazz sounds about right...but I have never heard of paying 5 years upfront. Every year you have to pay your tax, in return the SAMSAT puts a stamp on your STNK (rightbottom side) and left to the stamp is the validity date. @matt & sakumabali, the tax is a percentage based of the new value of the car, this percentage decreases over time..hence for a newer car one is likely to pay more tax...unless the older car is something like a BMW, know what I mean?
