The wall of a villa complex in Labuan Sait, near Padang Padang, Pecatu, was dismantled by local villagers on Sunday evening.
According to local community leader Nyoman Sujastra, the incident was sparked by the arrogant attitude of the complex owner who refused to follow village regulations and respect the local culture.
Sujastra, who used to be a legislative member, said that neighbours had suggested lowering the height of the wall and also moving a part of it that was obstructing a way to the beach for Hindu ceremonies.
“This issue was initially not too complicated. We asked the owner at a civic meeting to reconstruct the wall due to the access problems. The people here became upset and angry after the owner claimed to know lots of important government people,” said Sujastra.
The local villagers have already complained to the Badung Vice Regent, I Ketut Sudikerta, the Chairman of the Parliament of Badung, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, and Commission A and B of Badung parliament, but there was no response.

The polemic villa resort in Labuan Sait, Padang Padang, has begun to see the light. At a meeting in Puspem Badung yesterday, the owner of the villa complex apologized to the local people and is now willing to meet their demands. A meeting was held at the Vice Regent of Badung’s office and was attended by Vice Regent, I Ketut Sudikerta, villa owners, and community representatives.”The owner of the building was finally willing to sign an agreement with the residents as well as apologize for his behavior during this situation,” said community leader and local parliamentarian, I Made Sumerta.
Sumerta revealed, the owners are willing to dismantle the wall terracing that deviates from the IMB and violates aesthetic areas. The local residents demanded yesterday that the owners knock down the wall directly adjacent to the cliff immediately because, today (25/11), the local Hindus would perform the religious ceremony of Melasti on the beach.

apologise ..., he had no choice in the matter and should consider himself lucky that he was given the opportunity to do so , in other areas he may not have been so lucky after being so disrespectfull to the pillars of local society . The resort owners behaviour was also disgusting :disgust: to the local community before, during, and after the village descended upon him , it was all totally avoidable ...., and as for that wall ....., it was poorly built and super dangerous . It was also extremely ugly and made the place look like kerobokan jail. I hope the episode hasnt soured the sentiment between local people and foregners in the future .
