It's up to you, . But in the end the drinks bill for the wedding will be significant. That's life.

Just very expensive. If you pray hard enough, [I]maybe[/I] by next October, what's left of the Indonesian government might come to its senses. If you don't have a wide-ranging list of spirits your guests might want, it [B]is[/B] possible to buy spirits through the black market. Not a real lot of choice, these days. A 750ml bottle of Johnny Walker Red label is costing me [I]Rp[/I] 275,000 (delivered). My "contacts", at the moment, have only got Red Label and a reasonable Vodka.Things like "Mansion House", "Robinson's", etc, are absolutely dreadful! If one was that desperate to drink booze, better off to buy bulk [I]arak[/I] and hope nobody dies.Of course, if your guests are coming from overseas, get them to bring in duty-free stuff.

The Wine Shop on Sanur By Pass (right before the Jalan Hang Tuah/Dunkin Donuts intersection) has a decent price - not cheap - but cheaper than Carrefour and Hardys. They have good selections.JC's idea is better though, all overseas guests MUST bring a bottle of something from DFS for the wedding.

I bought a two litre cask of the local plonk. It was supposed to be Chardonnay or something like that, can't remember, but it tasted like cider. It WAS cider. It was terrible, really bad, and cost me about $60AUS from Hardy's I think it was. Never again. You will not find an affordable, drinkable retail wine in Bali.I still finished the cask, though.

I don't think any Chardonnay grapes are grown in Bali. The Hatten web-site mentions the variety "Alphonse-Lavallee" for the reds and roses, and "Belgia grapes of Muscat" for the whites. They do make Two Islands Chardonnay using grape juice from Australia which is then made into wine in Bali. The Hatten web-site is at[url=http://www.hattenwines.com/]Hatten Wines Bali - Unique Tropical Winery & Vineyard[/url]I enjoy Hatten, but still find it expensive so mostly stick to Bintang, Bali Hai and Anker. Also, some restaurants selling Hatten by the glass keep partly empty bottles or casks too long. But Rp540,000 for a 2 litre cask is very high - it should be under Rp300,000.

A rather ordinary wine like Jacob's Creek can cost an arm and a leg these days. Ever seen a bottle of Penfold's Grange here? The way prices are you'd have to sell your motorbike/car to buy one.The ironic thing is ([I]from what I've read)[/I], the whacko government's price hikes for imported booze has [B]not[/B] resulted in extra revenue for them (even though the number of drinkers has remained the same). Sorry, too silly for words.As for [I]Bali Hai[/I] beer, this has got to be one of the worst beers on the entire planet.:icon_e_smile:
