Hi all,
I was wondering how many of you have nannys for your children and what they do and how many days you have them, what they charge etc?
Here in Australia I dont have a nanny. I dont need one nor do I need a babysitter as my parents are just around the conrner. They only have the kids if we need to go somewhere important and cant take the kids or sometime when we are busy they take them to the park etc.
As we wont have any family to call on in Bali to help out with the kids if needed I just wanted to get some advice from those of you that have or have ever had a nanny for your children.
Thanks:icon_e_smile:

You might consider contacting local schools to ask if they have a childcare network or teachers who might be interested for those occasional times you may need childcare. I am planning to move to Bali in August to teach at a school (fingers crossed) and might think some teachers would be open to supporting families with childcare, in addition to teaching. I have not yet lived in Bali yet and thus, don't know the true etiquette around this.
Take care and best wishes!

I would think teachers would not be to keen, the money would not be worth it. unless you find someone that would want to do a swop.
But nannies are so cheap you might as well get one full time, cost about 1.5 juta a month. 6 days a week, and if you want you can always say on certain days you will want night time nanny instead of day. they can either live in or just come on a daily basis. You will want someone though that can speak decent english for the kids.
To get one in on the odd occassion might be a little weird for the kids. also you might want to do gym or yoga regularly and want to live the kids anyway for an hour or so each morning.
the other alternative is you can always ask your pembantu if they want extra overtime for babysitting at night. becareful you dont pay too much else they wont want to pembantu any more LOL.

Hi Tiahaylie,
Look at the BALI ADVERTIZER website (sorry that I cannot attach any link here coz Im a newbie in the forum) They have several Babysitter agencies that you can try. Most of the agencies have a trial system. You will get 1 nanny for two months and if you are not satisified with her job, you can get a replacement, without fee. the registration costs about 700.000 Rupiahs.
I think 1,5 million rupiah is still quite too expensive for a full time nanny, most of the time the nanny will turn lazy and reckless with her job, but if you are lucky you probably will found a good one.
My advice is to start with 1 million per month, (full time basis and live in) let the nanny knows that if she has done a satisfying job, she will receive more in the upcoming months. I never gave my nanny an "extra/incentives" whenever she took initiave on another task. I just let her know that she will receive a "raise" next month. I found this trick helped me, my nanny turn to be loyal. She knew that I am serious with her and we both satisfied.
Another advice is to put a CCTV camera (Security camera) in your house, just to make sure when you are away you still can watch them online..
This is the normal price range in Bali
Part time 5 days working 2 days off, 8 hours around Rp. 800.000 - 1.300.000
Live in, 6 days working 1 day off Rp. 1.000.000 - Rp. 1.500.000
Good Luck!

my experience
hi
i am in Bali since 3 years and always had a nanny.
my experience is enormous, i have to say.
here my advice.
if you go with agencies they will most probably sent you a woman from lombok or java with no or limited experience. so you have to teach them a lot( double work) , most dont speak english and dont know how to play.
the experienced ones on the other hand know how to deal with foreigners, and some take a profit out of that. you have to watch your belongings( sorry but it is a fact), once you have left the house they do what they want( looking through your wardrobes etc...).
i know parents from my kids school who can tell more stories like this( money given not to buy food for the kids but kept it, hitting the children etc..)
i can only recommend that you try to get a balinese lady from your houselords family or from someone you know. then you have a certain quarantee.
normally balinese women are the much better nannies, thats my experience.
be prepared that they resign without announcment if they dont like something or just have to go home, they just don't show up the next day.
make a copy of the nannies passport, check their bags when they leave the house sometimes, come back home at a time not expected to check, this maybe prevents you from making the mistakes i did.
AND DON"T TRUST ANYONE.
we have found now a nanny which is lovely and honest, i pay here a good salary so she likes to stay. please also keep in mind that a nanny for 700 000 rupiahs( 60 dollars a month) does not earn enough for a decent living in Bali, the minimum salary for regency badung is currently 1'100'000, but i consider this still as too low seeing how much they have to pay for their kos( s small room rented), food and maybe a motorbike which they need.
so shortly say, pay them enough, treat them fair( as many dont do also....) and check them out, its great to have help here in bali but you have to consider the aspect that you are a rich foreigner for them, and they dont have any obligation or family connection with you, an employment is simply not enough.
you can pm me if you need someone trustworthy, i maybe know one or two good ladies looking for work.
cheers

I am not surprised she is fantastic at that rate.A building labourer gets between 50 000 and 70 000 a DAY here.If your nanny would work eight hours she brings home the weekly salary of a builder in a day.

I have the same experience as well. I know why she's paying 50 000 per hour. In The Netherlands, Nanny's salary is around 4,5 - 5 euro per hour (5 euro similar to 50 000 to 60 000Rp) Thats why at first I didnt mind charging 50 000 rupiah per hour, but now I know that rate is just too much for a nanny in here. between 1, 5 million rp - 2 million rp should be enough for full time nanny and babysitter

Hi Leandra,
THanks for your information on nannies. we are travelling to Bali for holidays in April and are hoping to have a Part time nany for the time we are there. We are staying in Nusa dua. Do you know any local nannies who would be looking for a week's work? Thanks Belinda
phil170258
the op was about 6 months ago, so not sure these people are still around on the forum. if you are staying at a villa or hotel in nusa dua then they will definitely have the names of local nannies.

Thanks Phil I didn't look at the dates. I would like to get a personal recommendation from an independent party of possible, but as you suggested I will also contact the hotel itself.

Hi Leandra,
Im moving to Bali with my 2 year old daughter in October, my husband will be away working most if the time. Can you recommend a good nanny? My daughter is very clingy, so i need someone with a friendly nature and great with younger children. Thanks

Where in Bali are you moving? We had a nanny in Nusa Dua supplied by Club Med. I do have a list of these nannies and their phone numbers somehwere, I could have a look around if you are going to be in that vicinity? The lady we had was very gentle and my 2 year old was fine with her. We were only there for one week!

Thanks, We haven't decided on exact location as yet, will do when we arrive and find accommodation. If you do happen to come across the list of numbers, that would be great! No rush at this stage as we dont leave until 10th October.
