Employment for Accredited Nail Technician

Would anyone be able to advise me if there would be employment available for Accredited Nail Technicians in Bali. I have been in the industry for 25 years + I am also a qualified trainer. I was also recipient of the title of 1998 Australasian Champion. I will be travelling to Bali within the next 2 weeks and would appreciate who would be the best person/company to approach. Thank you.

Highly unlikely as the local staff will be far cheaper to hire than you despite your qualifications. You might however consider setting up your own salon and train local staff.

I am not looking at making a fortune and am more than happy to have just enough to pay my own way, accommodation and living expenses etc. My needs and wants in this life are very simple.

Tilly, manicurists are a dime a dozen in Bali but I have yet to find a good one. If you can train and then give them some sort of "accreditation" it would get my attention as a prospective customer.

Are you bringing your tools? and do you work with a drill................damn I miss that here. You can do my nails LOL

You might want to remember that you cannot work without a work permit. If you set up your own company you can employ yourself but it will cost you and is not easy.

Hi Jimbo. This trip is for a holiday only. I will be speaking with officials over there. This is being arranged at the moment. Being involved and associated with the legal fraternity for many years here, I do things by the book. I sincerely appreciate your advice relating to my question and any further information you could supply me. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am far more interested in providing a service to enable the locals to earn a living for themselves and their families. Again, I sincerely appreciate any advice you could provide.

I fully agree with Polly. There is a market here in Ubud for a good and reliable mani/pedi place. Tilly, would you be interested in giving training for manicure and pedicure first to locals as well? Or only training for nail technicians (which I believe is the advance part). Let me know and thank you.

Whether it be in Acrylics or Manicures & Pedicures, I would be more than happy to pass on the knowledge required. It is ladies such as yourself and Polly I would enjoy talking to regarding this. Do any of the manicurists there use the paraffin wax treatment during the service? Do they incorporate hand and arm massages/foot to calf massage? They are just a few of many questions. Again, it is the locals I would like to assist in earning a living. Several years ago, I was in East Timor for the same purpose. I would appreciate being able to catch up while I'm there.

Tilly, I know little about mani/pedicures and have lived in the Ubud area of Bali for less than a year but here is my attempt to answer your questions. I have not seen any salons using the paraffin wax treatment and that sounds blissful to me after my last experience with a manicurist at a recommended salon. Again in my experience, they seem to do a bit more leg massage with pedicures than they do arm massage with manicures. I've had one pedicure where my feet were nicely scrubbed and trimmed but my nails weren't trimmed at all. I've had another pedicure where my nails were done but the rest of my feet were ignored. I don't think any attention at all is paid to the cleanliness of the instruments. From my personal experience the therapists could use all the training you can provide.

Hi Tilly, I'll be more than happy to meet up with you while you're here in Bali. I'll PM my contact details. Answering your questions. Yes, a few places do offer paraffin wax, but it is not a common thing. Handmassage is included in manicure, but not always armmassage. I know a bit about mani/pedi since I had a training (ages ago) as an aesthetician and part of the subjects was manicure and pedicure. Hope this helps for the time being, and let me know if you can't see my message.

Hi Polly You have just touched on an area that I cannot stress enough when I train girls. That is:- Bacteria and Funguses and the high risk of cross contamination and infections.Then we go into Sterilisation and Sanitation. All of what I just mentioned takes little to no time what-so-ever. Even here, over the last 10+ years, is more a case of money in the bank and NOT the health and wellbeing of the client. Many, not all, don't seem to comprehend, they are playing with peoples bodies. E.G. If I try a new product, and regular clients come in to make their booking, I will try a test spot on their inside arm, just with a cotton bud to see if there is any reaction. That is with either organic or chemical base products. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm from the old school. I'm a member of the APFA (Australian Professional Fingernail Association) and any service that doesn't meet their standard (and mine) they would kick my butt. LOL. I'm in Bali for 10 days and would like to chat to you regarding any possibilities of relocating there. Thank you for your valuable information.
