5 weeks in Bali June/July

Hi guys, I am going to Bali for the first time in June and will be staying for 5 weeks. I am going to be based in Ubud but am hoping to explore much of the island as well as Lombok and possibly Java. If anyone has any information about things I must see and do during my stay it would be most appreciated as I really want to make the most of my trip and see as much as possible! Also I am still yet to sort out my accommodation in Ubud. I am a student so looking for somewhere as cheap as possible whilst still being a nice, comfortable place to stay as I will be there for 5 weeks. I've heard the homestays in Ubud are quite good value for money, can anyone recommend anywhere to stay? I'd really appreciate any help and advice you can give me. Thanks, Kirsty

I have only stayed in a few guesthouses in Ubud. Dewi Ayu 1 is in jalan Monkey Forest, about halfway down the road from Ubud market. It's cheap and simple accommodation. There's a review here: Mic's Bali Forums - Dewi Ayu 1 Sama's Cottages in jalan Bisma. It's quiet and pleasant. There's a few reviews here: Mic's Bali Forums - Sama's Cottages Sagitarius Inn in Monkey Forest is a bit more upmarket, but it's a great place to stay. Whaaaoooooh there Bessi!!! Nothing wrong with optimism but having lived on the island on and off now for damn near 3 years I gotta say to my eternal shame that I haven't managed to make to either Lombok or Java. Mainly because there's so much to do and see here on Bali so I recommend you plan to do Bali and if you get real bored then try Lombok. But don't bank on it. Welcome to the Forum Markit

Thanks for the accommodation information, do you know what Jati homestay or Teba house are like? Haha Markit maybe I am a little optimistic but I want to fit in as much as possible whilst I am over that side of the world! I wonder if you could tell me some of the 'must do and see's' of Bali?! It depends so much on your interests like diving or surfing. I think Bali is more about the people, culture and village life than ticking off a list of sites to visit.
