Wine from Aust?

Hi all just wondering what the attitude is at customs re bringing wine into Bali. We are coming for an extended stay and the local stuff was like paint stripper when last there. When we could find decent wine the price was well shall we say surprising! Cheers

Selamat pagi Paps, and welcome to the forum! To answer your question, one litre per person, regardless of what it is...hard liquor, wine or beer is the allowance. They can be "ball busters" at customs if you bring in more. Yes indeed, many of the great wines of Oz can be purchased here...I fancy Yellow Tail myself, but yes indeed again, it ain't cheap. The better wines from Oz run about Rp. 140 to 160,000 per bottle, (for the legal stuff). This is due to the very high taxes that are levied. If you can find contacts, :shock: the stuff that "fell of the plane" at Ngura Rai airport can be had much cheaper... :oops:

Paps, I am not a wine drinker, so not sure what type you drink... I have been told that to bring in just the inner of a cask or a few in your suitcase is an option... Also I have used this tip myself with no problem.... I buy a few bottles of Vodka, Scotch etc, keep one litre in my Duty Free bag & place the other 2 into my hand luggage under a blanket, jacket documents, show the Duty Free bag & the TOP of my hand luggage, obviously not showing the extra bottles...

No duty if one litre...if over, well, it's up the boys at customs. For me, I go to Bangkok twice a year...every six months, to renew my visa at the Indonesian Embasy and to get a medical check up at Bumrungrad. On return, I always buy two bottles of really fine French Bordeaux wine, and they are always 750 Ml, which is of course, 1.5 litre. I agree with Tracey, i.e. hide the goods, but these are expensive wines...viz, Chateau Lafite Rothchild, Palmer, etc., so I present them in my "duty free" bag. I've been "played with" a few times, but in the end, showing them the pictures of my wife and kids...it always ends up..."selamat jalan." :D If they had any clue what these wines cost, hell, can you imagine a Balinese party of sate and Chateau Palmer, 1966? :shock: It would be a nightmare!

Hey Roy, Yellow tail is a great wine, due to the fact it is exported it can be hard to get over here in OZ.

I will hang around just busy these days with work i am not a bludging university student anymore but a university students who also works full time. So I will stay just wont be here all the time.

I dont know whats going on can we get back to the wine issue??? I am quite partial to the white zinfandel made by berrenger. Eventhough it is a us wine I love it. It appeals to my sweet tooth
