New years celebration in Bali

Hi all! What should I expect from the new years celebration in Bali? Will there be any fireworks and public areas with celebrations, countdowns etc or would the best way to celebrate new years eve be at a club/restaurant? thanks!

I had a great time at the Hotel across from Naughty Nuries... The name eludes me... There should be plenty of parties and venues... Ask around

Kuta beach will be packed and i suspect many drunken westerners! My favourite is Legian beach...last year not too crowded, no drunken behaviour just a great atmosphere also being enjoyed by many locals and their families:icon_e_smile:...and yes many fireworks, lighting displays........hope you enjoy!

Last year I was in Lovina and the police closed all of the bars because of trouble they have had before on new years.

its very funny this year. you have venues like la lucciola for example who wants to charge 1.4 million PER PERSON for the NYE Dinner, there are many similars around...... and then you have other places- less famous- where they charge very low for excellent food and drinks, therefore its the choice which is important. i wold avoid clubs and bars as they also charge a fortune for entries and drinks this night, beach i sthe better option or going somewhere up to see the lights and fireworks. pelease remind that many locals have ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE how to light up fireworks( saftey stadars such as using bottles etc...) therefore keep your distance, especially with kids. Thank you for all info! Currently me and my wife stay in Ubud and we are talking about going down south to the beach because it will be more of a celebration going on than I believe there will be here around Ubud, but I might be wrong. I would be happy to avoid the crowd of overly drunk people though. Thanks for the advice on safety. Coming from Sweden where the law pretty much forbids non-professionals to handle fireworks, new years eve in most countries is an adventure. I wish you all a great new years eve!

As Leanndra rightly points out there will be a lot of restaurants doing the usual NYE rip off and as pointed out you will also find some nice places not so crowded and a whole lot cheaper. As i said earlier i found legian beach last NYE to be absolutely great and trouble free...this was the part of the beach in front of Blue Ocean restaurant....it was a great atmosphere and i felt completely safe. By law you have to get a permit to light fireworks but i feel not many people do! however, where I was was more locals than tourists and they were very well entertained with sparklers while watching the big ones go off either side of them. Maybe worth a try to contact some of the restaurants to see what their prices are for NYE......in fact when i go to the beach tomorrow i will check and let you know.:icon_e_smile:
