I plan to get an account at BNI with a sponsor in November, and obviously planned to be able to transfer funds from the US to that account. The recently mentioned firm Travelwise (?) or something similar is not approved in my home (US) state along with 2 other states so that can't be pursued. Visiting my bank in the US last week learned that I can only wire funds to Indonesia while physically present in the US despite any preparations while here before leaving. With that information I decided to visit the larger and supposedly more sophisticated Wells Fargo Bank with intentions to open an account only to learn that they presently will not wire funds to any Indonesian Bank! What do they know about Indonesia that i don't? US Bank in the past did wire funds from the US to Indonesia for me, but after long years of other problems with their huge operation opted to move to a smaller bank. Since my plane leaves tonight for Bali there was scant time to look elsewhere. Hmmm........strange experience.

Sorry just realized you are in Washington State,

Don't know what state you are in,but I transfer money with bni here in ny to bni in indo, you need to contact bni here in ny,I have all the info for them, you don't even need to go in there yourself, you can set it all up by mail,or money order or even a transfer from your us bank to bni bank in ny,I go in there all the time myself and they are genuinely very pleasant and extremely helpful, also I transfer much larger amounts to indo from td bank but that's a business account and going to indo to purchase products there, have a safe trip but if you need the details of bni here in ny I will be happy to pm it all to you,i send to my wifes account in indo and her last name and mine are different so it shouldn't be a problem for you regardless of what name it is going to,actually it was bni in Surabaya thet gave me the idea in the first place, they told me they have a branch in ny so I went in and had no problems at all except that they forgot to make a copy of one of my id`s,so was a small delay first time around, and the money transferred the same day, sent at 3pm ny time and was in her account at open of business in indo the following morning so was extremely quick,

Thanks to all. Am back in Bali, and will check out the advice. Damned banks mmmmm mumble mumble.
Listen to the latest bs problem! The airline I have been using for 15 years and with whom have had great experience tried to slip a nasty to me! Amidst their 4 page online purchased ticket info. is a notice that the credit card purchasing the online ticket must be presented at the check in counter. in the event that self-same credit card is not presented the person with the ticket must buy a completely new ticket! If a round trip was originally purchased months before, a one way ticket won't suffice, nor will accrued mileage credits before or present be accepted. If the old credit card used for purchase has been lost or stolen.........tough s..t!
it makes no sense to me when picture identity along with valid passport and the fact that they had my money for two months as well as their dippy flight club membership (which had previously been notified and reported of lost card) occurred. Fortunately anticipated the lack of big bank back up correspondence which didn't arrive and provided enough documentation of identical balances due and paid for old and new card with different numbers was the only thing that saved my ass from having to buy anew!
Moral.......read the fine print on those tickies or no laundly!

Welcome back to the 'Island of the Dogs...ooops....meant Gods".:icon_wink:
This credit card requirement is common among some airlines but your situation is the first Ive heard of it being vigorously applied. So your message is a good warning for others.
If I buy an e-ticket for someone I always give them a copy of the credit card used, just in case. I once bought one for my sister-in-law on Sriwijaya Air and had to fill-in a special form for her to carry....but they didn't ask anyway.
I'm not sure if the rule is the same but a couple of years ago Lion air wouldn't even accept a foreign credit card for purchase of e-tickets.
On a different subject, but worth warning about, is that some banks will not honor their credit card in foreign countries unless pre-advised that travel to those areas was planned.

Yes when I purchase my tickets online the same regulation is there,i too don't understand why but its there,i use the same airline all the time and the same bank and card for the past couple of years, but I have never been asked to show the card when checking in,
As for the banks not honoring their cards when used abroad unless they have been previously notified is something I can relate to,has happened to me two times, first time I wasn't aware of their regulation, I used it just one time in Bali at an Atm,got my money, a couple of days later, when I got home I tried it in an Atm in Ny and wouldn't work, went to my local branch of the bank and they told me yeah it was locked and couldn't be unlocked, and that they couldn't issue a new card from that branch,i had to go miles away from where I live to another branch of the same bank where the card was originally issued and they gave me a new one, this one took 24 hours to become active,
Last experience was November 2014,however this time on my way to the airport I went into TD bank and sat down with a lady,i explained that I was leaving in a couple of hours and wouldn't be back for 5 months, she asked me what countries I might use the card in and I gave her all the info, she entered it all into the computer as I told her,and she told me everything was good,i arrive in Frankfurt bought breakfast paid with my card instead of cash Us dollars, this way I don't end up with a pocket full of Euro in change, had no problems, couple of days later I tried to pay for lunch and some drinks in Surabaya and the card was rejected, then tried it at a couple of atm`s and same result, luckily I was able to contact the bank online and they told me they had locked the card because they hadn't been notified of my travels,i responded by telling them that I had gone into the bank gave them the branch address and who I spoke with, they unlocked the card and said sorry, all ended good but its embarrassing having my card rejected especially when I had done the right thing,
So the moral of this is,not only read the small print on your e-ticket,when you notify the bank of your travels ask the person to whom you are giving the information to for their name and position they hold in the bank in the bank, this way if you have problems you can actually pin the blame of the bank, its unfortunate that no matter how we try to comply with regulations we are still at the mercy of that one person whom we are dealing with,if that person doesn't click the send key on the computer then its us who are by this time half way around the world and left dealing with embarrassing situations which never should have occurred in the first place, the banks insist on such precision, too bad they don't practice the same ,

Jakarta Post ,,Policy issued to ease restrictions of foreigners bank accounts,,seems it was issued on Tuesday,,its about foreigners/tourists being allowed to open a dollar account with a minimum of $2,000 just by showing a copy of their passport,,there are other types of accounts also,i suggest reading it as it should be of interest to many members on here,,its another idea by the government of getting foreign currencies into Ri,,

Come on Ron the Oz $ is about as floppy as the Rupe.
This whole thing is another BS line. As mentioned 2 weeks ago a friend transfered $60K into the bank here and not one question asked except "what for boss, built villa? OK, tk". When my friend pointed out it was solely for loose women and cold beer bank guy just laughed...
Nydave
Yep Spicy that's the article,
Nydave
Well it should be of particular interest to those who posted about how to open a bank account without a Kitas, surely this should ease their situations,

If your friend has a Kitas/Kitap that has always been accepted...I recently transferred UK£78,000 with no questions asked.
The article, and limit on amount, refers to those who are principally tourists.
