Qualified Butcher?

Any qualified butchers out there who could/would train a local in their trade or be interested in a business idea?

Your best bet would be to put this on the German forum - most of the expat butchers that you see around the world seem to be German where the apprenticeship is still alive and living well. I think most of the sausages and wurst that you see here in freezers from Hardys to Carreefour are made by Germans. Just a thought Markit

True, Looking to possibly open a butchers shop here in the north. Need to train a local. Wanting some Idea how long it would take to train an apprentice and how much it would cost. Can source animals. Thought there might be a market for something other than 'chopped up pig'.

I know one, (my step father) He is a real butcher, run his own businesses now retired from butchering. He is based in Perth only 3 or 3.5 hrs away. He might be interested, I could ask? A note: Obviously training someone takes time, not crash course. Cheers,

hahaha...yeah you might be on to something there. I know of a local halal 'butcher' in Singaraja, and he's pretty good with a knife on a goat...from life goat to skinned,cleaned, and cut in pieces in a couple of minutes. Don't know if he has any skills when it comes to cow or horse..

I would respectfully suggest that you guys think about it a bit more....:icon_rolleyes: The trick with being a successful butcher is knowing what to do with the rest of the animal! A lawnmower can chop up a pig , that's not the trick. Knowing how to make sausage or cold cuts out of the rest of the beast is the most important, difficult and prized, and for that you need a German. Unless you want to have a "Meat Shop" like in Sanur which is just frozen shite (dry, tough, nasty, old...etc.) For that you don't need a butcher, a lawnmower works too.

yeah Gilbert I went to school too and I can read what Mat posted! if any Qualified Butcher out there is interested in Mats Idea and would like to cooperate with Mat, then He or She will definately know more details about his Business Idea.

The traineeship or apprenticeship to become a butcher is minimum 3 years full time, to become a (good) butcher will take a lot longer than that. As others have said its what you do with the (whole) animal that counts.

Hi, I realize the expense and the equipment needed will be considerable. Just putting out some 'feelers' at the moment. I don't have anybody in mind for 'the job' but probably will look for a family member to train, whether training here by importing and employing a qualified butcher [means a shop could be opened quicker] or sending someone to Europe to college to train [would need to be halal to take advantage of the whole market], I'm not sure which is the best way forward. Still just a seed of an Idea. But I have people ready to supply animals. Also would like to build a smoke house for fish, and bacon. [Need to know what wood can be used here]. I will be selling up in the UK and am looking at various business ideas at the moment that will supply me with an income and keep me occupied. We certainly could do with a good butchers here. Bacon, ham, chops, decent steaks. This is just one of a few Ideas I am 'pricing up'. But the one when set up I believe, will supply the most steady income.

aaahh ok you can read...duh :icon_rolleyes: but apparently reading and understanding are two diferent things so I just refraised the words abit to make it understandable for any butchers out there :icon_lol:

I was waiting for someone to come up with the obvious. My early thinking was to partition a shop, different prep areas, not do goat or chicken, just Beef, pork, duck, maybe some smoked fish. There is a demand I am just working out if it is viable to fill that demand. Maybe the "Halal' side will need careful thought as to whether there would be customers for it, as the local Balinese people seem to doubt a Muslim would buy from anybody but another Muslim. More research needed there. Early days.

You will need a certificate for the Halal side of things, but like everything it will come down to th price. I buy and sell to Muslim people they are just like everyone else, Money Money Money:icon_mrgreen:

what shop are you talking about in sanur?? I am looking for a decent butcher/meat (recently moved to sanur). also anyone know where i can get DECENT gluten free sausages????

There's a "Meat Shop" on the bypass in Sanur - by the Estate agent there that sells only frozen cuts and by Tropical pools there is the other one - opposite side, is it the Anchor or whatever - they package lots of stuff for Carrefour, Hardys and the other majors.
