Hello. I am a Sanur resident and would like to join a Tai Chi class (have already some experience). Not one of those short and expensive workshops for posh tourists; rather, a serious course, led by a good master (indonesian?).
Any tips/good piece of advice?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Gio

I would also like a pointer to a Tai Chi expert around the Ubud area.

Hey folks, new to this forum and noticed 2 posts related to Tai chi, I am a teacher and am currently in Thailand but wondering if there would be enough interest in Bali to set up a school there for local expats at reasonable rates, I teach a range of related topics from the Taoist long life Qigong, short and long Chen style forms, martial applications, foundation courses, teacher training and health recovery.

I know this thread is quite old, but if there's anyone out there wanting to catch up regularly for tai chi push hands practice, please let me know. I've been learning Yang style as taught by Grandmaster Huang Shen Shyen for around 15 years. I visit my master (Foong, in Sabah) regularly, but I am missing a push hands partner here in Bali. Looking to work on developing song and my listening and yielding.

Thanks for the tip. I used to see a group practicing in the park there in Renon on my way to work in the mornings, but whenever I looked for them on the weekends, they were gone. Like a mirage. I will hunt them down in the evenings. Cheers.

Hi Dave,
We've met before. I attended the World Tai Chi day at Blue Karma, and went to one of your lessons in Sanur. The thing is, I'm not really interested in learning a new style, but practicing the one I am learning now. Very keen to catch up for practicing push hands patterns and free pushing if you're interested, but I don't want to learn a new form as I am still far from perfecting the one I do now. I mostly interested in practicing listening and yielding in partner work, and looking for someone, or a small group, to meet up with regularly to share ideas and practice.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Amituofo,
Thanks for the info. Actually, I am quite firmly attached to the style taught to me by my master and believe that it is better to dig one deep well than many shallow ones when developing tai chi skill, so I am reluctant to become a student of another master. What I am really searching for a partners for push hands practice, and not really to gain further instruction. I will contact Sifu Ming and see if he has any open push hands classes which could be perfect.
Thanks again,
Nick

Very welcome, Nick.....my name is Petra. I understand when you are attached to the style taught by your master and certainly to 'dig deep' is the way to do it. I please must assure you though that there is nothing shallow in this class - actually the very opposite! The class tuition is not just about 'another form(s)' - it is about principles and concepts of the internal side of the art. And definitely you will find push hands...best would be just to contact Sifu and talk to him or give it a try....best wishes.

Hello good morning from Jasri, I do not attend this forum very much but was forwarded this query. I have been a Tai Chi player now for 10 years with several/many teachers in several countries and I am intrigued by the complexities of this art and its martial quality. I love Push hands and am happy to have found an excellent Sifu here in Bali who truly knows this art and is also very humble. He teaches definitely the MARTIAL way of this art and the Internal aspect. Sifu Ming knows Shaolin, several Tai-Chi Styles, Baguazhang, Wing Chun, Xingyi Quan including various weapon-styles.
I attend the Sunday Baguazhang class every Sunday which starts at 11 am but Sifu runs many classes during the week and please contact him for all details. His name is Sifu Ong Wen Ming from "Bali International Kungfu School Pro Patria" which is in Renon, JL. P.B. Sudirman, Grand Sudirman Blok A.42, Denpasar. (Not far from MATAHARI SHOPPING MALL). There is no website but a blog and much info on FB.
I tried to attach two Facebook links where one can find much info also many YOUTUBE clips demonstrating what is taught and practiced there.
But as I never post here it said:

Sifu Ming speaks excellent English but sometimes when more local students are attending class he teaches also in Indonesia Bahasa. I truly enjoy going there and must say I learn so much!

Good morning NickMann from Jasri. ~~~~~ Today, 03/02/2015 ~~~~~ 10:17AM
I was forwarded this query and I myself have also been to 'World Tai Chi Day' in Blue Karma. (The one who did the Yang Style 32 Forms Sword Demo as well as the Fan Style Demo.) Dave and I have done a few work shops together.
I just wrote the following detailed answer to another forum member above. Not sure how old his post was as I am not familiar with this forum.
Please see my answer here:

Hi Petra,
Actually, I have already contacted Sifu Ming and we will find a time to catch up - so thank you. I'm sure his methods and knowledge is very deep - it's just that in such a short life, it is really only possible to fully explore one particular method, I believe. At least, it is for someone of my limited ability. My master warns me of the dangers of mixing styles and understandings, and insists on my having faith and fidelity towards what he teaches. Of course, it doesn't mean that I can't discuss and share and learn with other tai chi lovers, and that is what I am looking for. If you would ever like to catch up and share ideas, or you know anyone else interested in practicing push hands, please let me know. I'm no expert, but I just need more hands on practice to improve my listening sensitivity which I don't get enough of as my master is in Sabah.
Thanks again for your kind response. Hope we meet again one day.
Nick

Hi Petra,
Actually, when I met Dave again after, he also didn't recall that I was there at the World Tai Chi day, so I guess my powerful presence and mesmerising charisma must have been missing that day ;) But I was there!
I'll be catching up with Sifu Ming on Saturday :) I'm looking forward to being thrown around a bit!
I'm also keen to go to the push hands class on Sunday, so hopefully we can chat then. I'm definitely keen on sharing and making connections with people and ideas.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick,
good to hear you have contacted Sifu Ming and I assume a possibility to do Push Hands for you may be found. I myself go all the way to Pro Patria School in Denpasar to practice Push Hands - up here in Karangasem is noone. I go every Sunday for the 11am class but it is too far for me to go more often even if I would like to. So if you ever like to catch up maybe attend on a Sunday just for sharing. I am trying to remember who you were on the Tai Chi Day. And yes, it often happens that some masters advise only to follow their own teachings. I prefer the more open way - I like to learn from many - and I have done so far over the past 10 years and feel I have learned very, very much. Also grateful that Sifu Ming follows the principle of open sharing. Take care. Petra

Hi Nick, sorry ...I am very slow answering here on this Forum. I went to Bagua last Sunday and Sifu Ming said you went to his school last Saturday. Good to hear! He also said you may come this Sunday to Bagua class (15th Feb). I will go there again. Maybe I will see you there then I will know who you were at World Tai Chi Day. I took many pics that day - album is on my Facebook. I can't attach it here yet as I do not post enough here. Once I will have posted more I will attach some photos. Maybe see you this Sunday?
Cheers. Petra
