Sat Nav or GPS

Is there a reliable sat nav or gps map for Bali that can be installed on a Garmin sat nav? I'm wondering about bringing mine with us when we move in June. Is anyone here using a sat nav to find their way around?

Thank you, Spicy. I've looked at the Balinavigator site and the map looks like what I had in mind. If anyone has used it and knows how comprehensive or reliable it is I'd love to know. In two months we'll start building our home in Bali and I imagine that it will take a lot of driving to places we've never heard of or seen looking for building materials. A good sat nav might be a big help.

Have downloaded all the maps of the world to my Nokia mobile recently since they're free. Will be trying out the Indonesian maps in a couple of months in Bali. Will see how badly we can get lost then rely on the expertise of the locals to get us home again. :icon_lol:

I'am using Garmin Mobile XT with the garmin Indonesia map on my Nokia E71. It covers Java and Bali. It works great on my motorbike to find the streets i'am looking for. Very detailed map of Bali, somethimes it takes some time to find the sattelites. greetings, hugo

Whitecow, I just now checked and, yes, Maps did find my current location. But you need to understand. I need a BIG screen with big map lines and I definitely need Maggie telling me to turn right in 30 metres. Sat nav is ordered. It will be here on 15 July. I guess that must be Bali time since I haven't seen it yet.

i also recentlypurchased a garmin gps in singapore. was seriously half the price of what one pays in bali. problem is it was preloaded with singapore and malaysia only. i asked them to load indo, and they did. a month later i was driving along and it went blank. i guess they loaded a free 30 day trial or something. i will find something somewhere......but also wanted lombok. does anyone know if the garmin bali/java also covers lombok? thanks

You can download whatever you want for garmin indonesia and modify/select the map to whatever selection you want. Basic mapsource modify, I got the current maps for most of Indonesia downloaded via various sources. Google is your friend.
