A first impression of Kuta by:MmmiSoOld Year- New Year in KutaIt was crazy in Kuta on Old Year's Day, traffic jams were all over the place. We made an attempt to go to the beach in the evening, but it was impossible to get there. Roads were blocked by the police and other streets were stiffly packed with vehicles like sardines in a can. When an overheated guy coming from the other direction shouted in our face " Don't go there! It is crazy, go back, go back!", then we knew: Okay, it wasn't a very smart idea in the first place... The atmosphere was strange, the text message warnings from Europe and US, news, the roads blocked, restaurants and bars closed (I was told)... it all felt as there was this global disaster coming our way... For a second I thought "Lovina-Lovina...why am I in Kuta-Kuta..." We managed to return to our base and ended up having BBQ with a group of 15 people, both locals, tourists and expats. And with plenty of fireworks. Of course. The day after we drove around and it was pretty 'quiet' in the streets. A ceremony here and there, some shops closed; there was nothing left of the stress of the night before. It was weird, it was as last night had just been a restless dream. On New Year's eve we started having dinner at the beach, it was nice tasting the salty breeze every time I inhaled. It was as an extra dimension of the dish. And for "dessert" ... we had some Poppies Lane...haha.. Wowwww! I thought I was on campus! :D We decided to enter a Karaoke Bar where a bunch of Aussie girls were doing their thing on the dance/mic floor. And I looked above and thanked one of the Gods when a guy took his place behind the mic with his harmonica. He started jamming with the musicians, which I absolutely loved. Out of enthusiasm I whistled shamelessly with my fingers as a construction worker would do when a foxy lady passes by.The night wasn't quite finished yet... I needed some R&B, so we went to this disco with a R&B section. The space was filled with high temperatured little Aussieboys and with girls of pleasure surrounding them. We ordered drinks and we had to laugh when we paid (for insiders: for 1 beer you can have 4 nice meals at Bintang Bali, Lovina) Our laughter strengthened our good mood even more and we danced until late. It had been more than 7 years ago I went out like this and I enjoyed it so much I can chew on this for the coming 7 years :D  ?Lovely people, have a splashing & peaceful 2010, with all the sweet things of life.Blissfully yours,MmmiS0

I'm not very clear on what makes people go to Kuta/Jimbaran/Cangu that aren't surf nuts? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they are there but when the rest of the island is so beautiful, peaceful, exciting, interesting, cheap, gentle, colourful, cheap and full of lovely people, oh and did I mention cheap? What is the attraction?I can only guess that it's like when someone is punching you on the nose - it's just so nice when they stop?

As far as know, whole new year evening the free meals for all of beautifull ladies at Kuta. There're some places provide the liquor water to drink to heart's content. What a memorable night for New Year!!! 8) @So, sincerely hope that you will enjoy your stay in Kuta.

Resturants, dico's in Canggu...there is about 4 restaurants in the whole canggu area and not one disco. In Brawa you are lucky to find anything on the road after 10pm. :D :D Me , did what I do every New Year, stayed at home.Like Mr Bean, went to bed @ 11pm.

gilbert de jong
Nono I am no Romeo...Romeo was far more handsome then me, well in the movie he was/is :), and it didn't end that well for romeo , so I'll settle for being a 'suggardaddy' for one or several nights 8) .

Gulapapa, welcome to Kuta for fun
MiSO
Haha... Romeo, sugardaddy, gulapupa, toy bear, toyboy...there is too much romance in the air...Envision dead cat-dead cat, dead rat-dead rat, dead pig & black burnt bacon .... :D Anyway, sorry it took me so "long" (2 days... :D) to respond, no internet at home yet.Sitting outside in front of MiniMart (free wifi...unbelievable but true...) while neighbouring restaurant is playing lousy music and the noisepollution of the street fills my ears...I'm not very clear on what makes people go to Kuta/Jimbaran/Cangu that aren't surf nuts? And you know Markit, as far as 'cheap-cheap-cheap' concerns...even with a limited budget, money is not always the biggest motive for choices...sometimes other things are more important. You should know now you are building your place... I could be wrong, but I am almost- almost-almooost sure that in the end you'll be spending more than you calculated (but then, you probably calculated from an Australian/ American mind & prices...please enlighten me on this) Oh btw, in 5 days I am here, no one asked me: Transport-transport?Where are you from?Where are you going?Transport tomorrow? You are married? "Miss, for you I am for rent" :D :?: Nothing of this at all, it's strange but true...So it is actually quite quiet here... ;-)""I'm not very clear on what makes people go to Kuta/Jimbaran/Cangu that aren't surf nuts?"" well the nightlife...see and to be seen places/resto's/disco's/bar's.FYI MiSO..Lovina was very quiet, alot was closed...Pasja, Volcano, Poco Loco etcetc..I was told because the former president (gus dur or dor or something like that) died in the night of 30th dec theren was not much happening.Oh and what you paid for a beer (bounty's a think?)...you've been robbed :) 4 meals = 100k minimum, unless you only eat green salad  .
Mmm...so the gus dur died...Well, I know they were organising something on the beach...too bad Lovina was dead that night as well... I have no idea what the name is of the place, but I am guessing it is the biggest disco in Poppies Lane with security sniffing in my bag. It wasn't that special at all, but maybe for Bali it is. 1 Bintang + 1 aqua = 260 K Rups ...hahaha... laughing again... Even in hot places in Amsterdam you don't pay this much...haha...So Gilbert..for 200 K it would be about 10 plates rabbit food... I'm not very clear on what makes people go to Kuta/Jimbaran/Cangu that aren't surf nuts?
Um, cos some of us aren't penny-pinching tightwads who thru being socially inept shun human company and enjoy going out for a night on the town to burn up some youthful energy. A possibility perhaps???? We must be strange, seeing as there's so many of us doing it ..........
