Members must now have made at least 20 posts to access this section

The restriction should now be in effect that you have to have made at least 20 posts on the forum before you can access this section. I changed the forum description to reflect this change. Some people want to have the section, others don't. I thought if we are going to have a member's section, we should at least have some restrictions to accessing it. It's impossible to check through every person who joins this forum, so at least if someone has made 20 posts, we can get some idea about the person and their motivation for posting here. Of course this does not mean the forum should be used for any other reason as to why it was initially created. It may also give a little motivation to encourage people to participate in the forum. :icon_biggrin:

The job of keeping an eye on malicious posters can be farmed out to voluntary moderators. This can work quite well if the "moderators" are not idiots in the first place, or become drunk with their perceived powers. If there is a need for a kind of [I]exclusive member's area[/I], why not have them [B]pay[/B] for a subscription? In other words, the forum would then have a free section and a paid-for one. I doubt that this would be very popular and simply alienate many existing "members". And I bet there would be next to no takers! If someone has a certain "sensitive" topic that they would like to discuss on the forum, but not have the whole world know about it, then this [I]might[/I] be the place to do it. The problem with not restricting it at all seemed to me, not to have any meaning. People could simply register to the forum, not make any posts and still have access. Restricting it by post count is a very small way of knowing just something about the people who might be reading this. If the money went to some kind of charity, why not?

Apart from Bert's sensitive revelations in the past, most people would not spill their guts on a forum like this, or even in a "member's section" here. "Sensitive" or very private stuff shouldn't be visible to anybody except for the people involved. Don't you think? Someone registers here. Promote all the charities you like on the main pages. Nothing wrong with that. Easy to do. "Members" are "members", IMHO. Luckily JC your ability to think of something isn't the measure of all things. I have added a thread to the members only forum and if you read it maybe you will "think again, or more." I hope it is allowed to stay, but it is not for general consumption. IMHO

I would agree that thread is good for that section, since it could possibly stir up a few comments that a brand new member might not appreciate seeing had they not gotten introduced to the forum yet. Also if I had a question that I wanted to make sure gave me the opinion of mostly people whom I was already familiar with and could therefore trust the opinions given better, I would post it in the members section.

Personally I found the tone of your post condescending and the final bit of your wit "think again, or more" insulting, even though it wasn't pointed at me. My point was exactly as I said, but nicer than you did. But I see that has fallen on deaf ears (eyes) so more bluntly: You are wrong in this instance and maybe you should think again, or better before being so hasty to pass judgement.
