Hi im new to this and i have a few questions..I just came back from Nusa Dua and loved every second and i really wanna go back.. i was thinking about doing a gap year in bali when i finsh school i was wondering if you think this is a good idea and would i find it easy to find a job (something like waitressing) and accommodation ect. Thanks for you time

You would probably not be able to find a job as a waitress, since they would rather employ an Indonesian to do it. If you had extensive experience managing or running restaurants, you could possibly be hired as a manager for a nice restaurant and work 60+ hours a week for about $1,000 USD per month, which would leave you no time to enjoy Bali.Accommodation isn't tough, but I would really just suggest if you want to stay in Bali for a year, just save up and come here and don't try to work, you;ll enjoy it much more.

Getting a job as an ex student before continuing not possible as you would be taking unskilled work away from the Balinese. General work like that is just not availble. Also to do ANY kind of work you will need a work permit and to stay in Bali you need a visa.you need to look at all this before long a term stay

@calitobaliah ok..how much roughly would you need to save up? and what would you do for a year?

I can live here as cheaply as 500 USD per month, although it's not ideal and doesn't leave much money for anything fun.I'd say save up $1,000 for every month that you want to stay. As for what to do for a year in Bali. Absolutely nothing. Or everything. Probably somewhere in between. Either way, you will have a good time.

Another option maybe to stay long term...try contacting some volunteer "work" organization in your country and see what/if they have something for you overhere on Bali, where you could help a handing hand. Or some indonesian organization...either way they will provide you with all the necessary papers. probably also will take care of housing and such. And it's not as black and white as Jimbo might make it look, although according to the LAW he's right....but for example you're a niece of a hotelowner who's giving the family business a helping hand during her stay...well you figure it out  .anyways, think it would be hard to return to the books after a year of living on Bali...firendly greetings, Gilbert.

I would also suggest you go maybe go for another holiday first but stay in areas other than Nusa Dua.It is not the same living in Bali as it is being on holiday so think about why you want to live there and what you expect to get from the experience. If you are serious about volunteering or just living simply, (no 4 star hotel or maid service) then save up a few $1000.00's and maybe go for 3 months first. You cannot just stay there indefinitely.
