Hi can anyone help me out with some information about plaited bamboo? I need a good supplier for around 200 square meters, varying designs and sizes to cover my ceilings.
Will travel, have Rupiahs
Thanks Markit

We have used this to line our ceilings (under the roof tiles following the pitch of the roof) in Java and it was handmade to order. We have used the outside of the bamboo which is apparently the best for durability and look. We have just ordered another lot for a new building on our property and I am pretty sure it is made locally in Java so a bit far for you. If you get stuck our builder is Balinese and lives in Negara so he probably knows someone in that area, but I am pretty sure you will find a supplier closer to you. If you want to send me a pm I can email some photos to you.

Please check above the village of SELAT. This is the prime production- and supplier area for that materialon our side of the island.
Will be back on Monday and you can get more info in person.

OK for walls but I do not like the idea for ceilings as it is a nesting area for insects and creepy crawlies :(

I think it looks nice on high pitched open ceilings with the wood exposed. On flat ceilings it looks pretty ordinary IMO. And like anything there are different grades of quality.

Will try and upload a couple of pics here so you can see what it looks like.
if you use the bamboo you can go without the plywood.
You're still using the Alu-foil right? between the tiles and the bedeg...
and for your viewing pleasure another pic..

You are worth your weight in .... Bintang. Pity you're not bigger
Yeah the foil goes in the middle - not convinced that it really does much but "when in Rome...."
Markit
Oh yeah and Gil thanks for the photo - is that your girlfriends favourite view?

Lining the open ceiling is exactly what I want it for. It looks fantastic and cost the same as plywood at around 80k IDR for 2 square meters. And what really seals the deal for me is that if you use the bamboo you can go without the plywood.
If you choose rattan, which initially looks great, it has to be backed with plywood which doubles the expense (at least) and in my opinion the rattan doesn't wear very well as over time it tends to sag between the rafters.

Jimbo, the entire topics are a nesting area for creepy crawlies - unless you can live in a plasic and glass enclosure you will always have them with you and I think you just have to get used to it - such is life. I intend to take up gecko farming
thanks for the pics
