Hi
I am currently living in Bandung and will be moving to Ubud shortly. I have a Golden Retriever. He's my best mate, well apart from my wife, so will be bringing him with me. I have been told that flying dogs in is not allowed, but it is OK by surface using an agent. He has got all jabs etc. Has anybody had any experience of similar move. Just a bit scared about reading about dogs being put down without question. Any advise really appreciated. Mike

Many thanks Gilbert. I really appreciate your reply and advise. Incidentally, I did contact groovy pets and they quoted me 11 juta, which I thought was a bit steep, so the figure you mentioned of 7 juta is interesting. Thanks again. Mike

your welcome mike.
wholly crap 11 j....3 years ago I paid to mr.juda (owner groovy pets) 8 million, that was for import permit from the dep.agraria in Jak, pickup from airport quarantaine (including substitute dog) and transport from jak to Bali for my rottie.
another thing you could try and contact is a biro jasa paket...sort of DHL  , it sounds strange I know, but see what they say how much the costs will be for a insured transport of a dog from bandung to bali..

Thanks Gilbert. Really appreciate your advise. Will advise how I get on. Rgds M

Hai MikeJ,
since you are living in Bandung, I guess you have your own car? so yo could drive yourself and the dog over to bali, taking the ferry. get a "surat perjalanan" at your policestation wich states that you are transporting your own dog back home to Bali. description of dog, passportnumber or chipID number of dog should be on it, as well as ofcourse the traveldate. bring along his rabies-free certificate, and passport/vaccination booklet when making the crossing. It should be no problem crossing into Bali like that (agents use the same methode). If the customs guy hassles you, just have a envelop prepared with 500k in it and slide that over 8) .
If you don;t feel comfortable about this whole adventure, you can contact groovy pets in Jakarta, they will handle the transport of your doggie but at a price of approx. 7 juta.
hope this helps a bit...
oh yeah, I never heard about a dog being put down at the ferry, only on arrival from abroad by plane.
friendly greetings, gilbert.

LOL perhaps you would care to explain this for those of us that may not quite understand what a "substitute dog" is for
And once you've done that would also appreciate any conjecture you might have as to the final fate of said "substitute dog" when the quarantine is over?
Kind of reminds me of the story of the prince's whipping boy.

well a 'substitute dog' will do your dog's time in quarantaine, they just swap/switch the dogs...your dog out - other dog in .
the sub-dog after doing the time in quarantaine, will be picked up by the agent. No need for teary eyes markit, it's actually not a too bad of a place, the place where the dogs are in quarantaine. the dog has a double livinghabitat....ehm, outside(gras) and inside connected with a door with plastic slabs (like in a butchers deepfreezer with doors u know?) inside is airconditioned. two meals a day...so all in all not too bad as I said.
now it's your turn...prince's whipping boy story?
