I was thinking again today, how happy I am with my son's school and what a gem it was to find. It is the best bit of advice or information I have had from this forum and I thank you again Bert for pointing me in thier direction :D Although not far from us they are so tucked away I would never have found them without a recommendation... and I in turn recommended another member whose son is now in the same class as mine.Anyway it got me to wondering what the best bit of advice or info other members have had from the forum????

I have had masses of good advice here, that's why this forum is such a gem :) If I had to pick one, it would probably have been from you, if I remember rightly it was something to the effect "read your posts before posting" Only joking - the best advice I've had on the forum was about building and buying land on the island, oh and not to forget good places to go and see, and also dealing with the Balinese customs and ceremonies, oh and, of course where to stay away from (Kuta!), but that isn't to be outdone by pricing information on home stays and hotels, not to mention where to buy food and drink (or not to buy) - I could go on and on so you see there hasn't really been a "best advice" it's been all good, well almost all.

Nice topic Mimpimanis :) ,I have to go with Markit on this one....the forum has given me alot of different perspectives on alot of topics. ofcourse the archives, the search option is great.Same as you, it was Bert that pointed me to a great dentist here in the area of Singaraja, and on a another question of mine it was agian Bert who pointed me to a Balinese local, for Motorbikes with a bigger engine then the usual. Thanks to that guy, who I am now good friends with, I met alot of new faces, who maybe in the future become friends. That's just two who pop up in my mind now, but I have 'learned' from other members too.,current members, but also from members that for whatever reason are not on the forum anymore. Topics I find interesting are mostly already discussed in the past...for example, Adat, Caste, history of Bali, that sort of stuff. But who knows, maybe In another form I will reintroduce topics like that, to see what the Newbies (me included) know about it or at all are interested in this? Thanks for the new topic mimpi, I like positive topics :)Friendly greetings, Gilbert.

It has been a week now that this post is up...and I can't believe that only three people found advice on this forum...or learned something from another member...are other members hesitant to admit so :?:  :?: Or is it that because other members didn't notice this post :?: Anyway's I for one, would like to hear from other members...

Hi....periodic visitor and still planning the move in the future. Speaking from the perspective of someone not yet there and still in the decision-making process...I guess the best advice I have gotten here isn't really concrete advice, per se. Not to say I haven't learned a lot from the archives. For me, it is an interesting mix of people who have related both postive and negative things about their experiences. A mix of people who do all kinds of things on Bali and who live all kinds of lifestyles. I think this gives a realistic balance and helps me to realise that my going to Bali and the life I make there will be what I want it to be. At this point, all of the practical advice and information, though valuable, have become "details", superceded by the decision to "do it" and the possibilities....

Hi Folks, been a while since I've posted, but this a very nice topic to start up, Mimpi. The good advice of a few on here often goes unnoticed or unthanked so I guess this is our opportunity to extend some appreciation.I guess for me personally, it's more a case of the best 'result' rather than any one particular piece of advice. The result being of course my beautiful Indonesian wife, soulmate and best friend Ani who I don't think would be with me now had it not been for the wonderful guidance from a few well learned members on here (sadly most have moved on). I always knew I wanted an Indonesian girl, right from my first trip there as teenager in the 90's, and considered myself reasonably well experienced about handling life in Bali/Indo, but these guys helped me understand what to expect from a more personal relationship than just good friends etc, whether it be from personally directed posts or just general reading. Later when I'd found the girl of my dreams they provided good advice on how to get my girl here to be with me in Oz (ie. Visa stuff). Roy, Sanurian, Bert, Jimbo, Dr Bruce and most of all Allan all have my gratitude for sharing their time and knowledge (plus anyone I've forgotten  ). Now, a couple of years down the track, things couldn't be better for the both of us and all directions point positive. Thanks fellas. On a less serious note, the best advice I've had is that Markit don't like Kuta....so at least I know my favourite party strip aint been blighted  :) .......CheersAdzy

I just stumbled across this thread and would like to say that best thing for me on this forum has been meeting various posters in person. Some have become personal friends, as a result. Several from overseas have visited and stayed with us. I know this is not exactly "best advice". Here are a few:Bert and DewiThorstenDashaSteff and ShazAdamMatsalehAntoine (French guitar player)Mark UlyseasRoySorry if I've left somebody out. :D :?:
