There are no pigs in Saudi Arabia :D
I'm afraid it's being spread by humans ;-)We got more then 4 million of the tamiflu medicine in stock over here in holland.

Yes australia is taking it very seriously like everything else that seems to happen around the world australia seems to go over the top and the media always seem to be in another frenzy feeding people with doomsday senario's no wonder half the population are popping pills  I remember the sars palarva :? did wonders for the profits of pharmaceutical industry killed airline stock prices and sold truck loads of newspapers increased the government budgets to all the research labs so what this time ?Nothing wrong with taking precautions but if thet really want to stop this epademic why not just shut down the airports and ports wouldnt this have the required effect,oh well we will see how this one pans out ,one drug company stock price went up 80% overnight :P would have liked to have a peice of that.Maybe one good thing is air fares could go even lower which would be a good thing

Before people start posting misinformed opinions regarding Swine Flu, might I humbly suggest that they get a better understanding of what this potential pandemic entails? For example, these articles in New Scientist magazine could be a good starting point:http://www.newscientist.com/special/swine-flu?DCMP=NLC-nletter&nsref=swine-fluWhatever happens (or doesn't), it's an important issue (not a joke). It's also another looming problem for the Tourism industry in Bali (maybe worse than SARS, the bird flu scare and rabies).

Thanks members,I liked reading how you guys and girls think and react to something as swine-flu.Bert..I don't know if Indonesia is doing anything, but then again I couldn't care less...if your/my number is up, ain't nothing left to do. If you know what I mean? But maybe a visit to the local medicineman could help, hihihi. just joking  .hahaha, jimbo...good one, no piggies there. would be funny too having the flu in a 50 degree invironment.bolli, yeah Australians, or at least the government I mean, tend to take anything anything very serious. How about you, buy any facemasks?.Anton, I totally understand what you mean about the media frenzy. Most of the time I think they are some kind of Illusionists..whilest looking at the left hand the real trick happens in the right, if you now what I mean :) . More people die of Malaria or TBC for example, but no media frenzy about that :?:  Sander, yeah the dutch are pretty well organised. My sister works in a hospital in north NL, but they don't take it really serious, as in a world wide threat to human-kind.Doris, Thanks for the link :) . But it raises more questions, then giving answers.Maybe it will become a problem for Bali tourism, time will tell. As far as I can tell the local people laugh about a sickness called 'flu babi'. And to be honest...if you think about it, it is.Do you (members) know people who didn't want to go on holiday to Bali because of rabies? Thanks again, friendly greetings........Gilbert.

Well we are taking it serious in Holland however, not many people seem to be worried this time. We have had our first confirmed victim of the flu which is a 3 year old child. The child has been treated with tamiflu and also the parents have been treated as precaution. We are calling it the Mexican flu because swine flu would suggest that it comes from pigs. As I heard last time its a mix of the bird flu, swine flu and human flu.

Aus although being isolated has to take precautions because we are lucky not to have alot of the nasties that our neighbours have eg rabies, malaria etc etc and we wanna keep it that way.Last I heard only 7 deaths worldwide have been proven to be from the swine flu since last week so on the scale of things in comparison to thousands of other causes of death its insignificant. However the swine flu is now rated at level 5 (maximum 6) by the World Health Organisation so things must be gettin fairly concerning that it will become a pandemic. From there who knows if it worsens mutuates or whatever things could get alot worse. The Spaniash flu in the early 1900s was 1st thought not to be serious but nearly 40million died so you never know. With the media frenzy I think you'll find overseas travel will be effected with everything else going on in the world. Every person that enters an OZ international airport is now getting heat scanned to check for abnormal body temperature with the idea being if you're hot you might have the flu. Then the questions start. I think there's currently about 100 Aussies that have been bloodtested so far (results pending). They have the power to detain and isolate you.Hopefully it will all be a "storm in the teacup" (not an issue). I asked my Indo gf tonight if anyone was talking about it in bali....her response...."what's swine flu never heard of it" and she works in an office of 10 people so obviously Balinese aren't all talking about it yet. Oh other forums had lots people asking about rabies over the last few months so I expect some will be worried about swine flu. If I was to travel in the next couple of weeks and didn't have to I consider waiting just because of the annoying delays that you'll experience with extra security checks etc and a mask aint gona help much if the person in the seat next to you on the plane coughs your way

I find it interesting that some members are not taking the swine flu seriously. The WHO certainly are, and as previously stated by Aquaman, by the aussie govt as well.My wife, child and mother in law are all flying to JKT on sunday and i will follow in 2 weeks. I am concerned for them, and as we will also be in Bali for a couple of weeks, will keep an eye on whats happening. Facemasks? not sure yet, but this flu is spreading very fast.

We cannot control whether this flu will become common in the area where we live. If it does, then there are a few things we can do to limit our exposure - facemasks being the very visible option, another option being to stay at home more.
goldminer
Hi Ron, sure, stay at home if having flu symptoms is what is being advised here, and it appears hospitals are stocking up on Tamiflu and some other medication that escapes me right now  Out your way near Lovina, shouldnt be hard to avoid it.

Goldminer wrote My wife, child and mother in law are all flying to JKT on sunday and i will follow in 2 weeks. I am concerned for them
Yep i understand you would be worried and make sure they have hospital insurance and alike but according to some doc on the telly those masks would not stop things like flu so dont count on having a mask as your protection.Nearly everytime i go to asia i get sick sometimes flu sometimes belly ache so i think some people going to asia at the moment will get the usual sickness but will panic because of the publicity this flu is getting, having said that im your cynical type mainly because there is so much shite in the news these days people have become media lemmings ! There will be alot of research type out there living off the government gravy train ( our hard earned taxes ) and this is a good opportunity for them to get extra funding, the dust mask industry will be making a motza, airport taxes will rise ,medical insurance premiums will rise, local tourism will prosper due to people who decide its to risky to go oversea's,drug companies will make extra billions, schools will close and kids will be happy, newspaper presses will be running hot & and the telly will be drowning us night after night after night after night until we are driven mad  Nantiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii..........

Swine Flu vs SARS Currently no international travel restrictions have been announced and the most recent WHO update indicated no reported deaths (although recent press reports suggest a death toll of over 100 in Mexico). SARS resulted in severe disruption to the international travel. Travel fell 50.8% during its worst month of May 2003 in the Asian region. Given the acute and short-term impact of the disease, Australian international passenger traffic followed a classic Vshaped pattern, falling 17.2% at its lowest point in May 2003 before recovering to a position of growth four months later. Does Pandemic stand for Pandimoniom and endemic. Like all things the news media blows things out of all proportion. Apart from in Mexico where there are 12 (confimed) deaths no where else has shown more than mild symptoms. It is good to be prepared but I feel the media is spreading panic which will turn into Pandimonium. :(
goldminer
This maybe so Jimbo, panic, pandimonium whatever. However, there is great concern from health organizations and govts all around the world. As i said in earlier post, the aussie govt is taking it particularly serious. Further on face masks, i tried 5 chemist today, and all had sold out and didnt know when they could get further stocks. But... Abdullah, my local chemist had plenty @ $3 each :)
milan
Hi all,Back in Milan and all calm throughout the flight/trip from Jakarta 3 days ago. Four months in Jakarta and Bali, had all the usuals. Fever, stomach upsets over and over, but took it all in stride(except the fever was terrible). Arriving here 3 days ago, had a stomachache again. Today all back to normal. Perhaps precaution is wise but not necessarily taking the medication imho. Ciao goldminer!
goldminer
Hey Milan :D where have you been? Was hoping you still in Jkt, will be there in 2 weeks. But your back in Italy.... regards to you and your husband. Steve
