English speaking teaching education in Bali???

HI! Does anyone know of a english speaking teacher education in Bali?? Or a very high english course level - like university standard?? The thing is that my husbond is taking his education to be a teacher - of international schools. And we sould like to go to Bali next year if it is possible for him to enter an english speaking educaion here.... Otherwise there is a possibility for him to go also if there is a very high standard of english course.... So...we need som help!! Thanks G

If I understand your question correctly, your husband wants to get a job teaching in an international school? There are quite a few international schools here. At least one teaches an Australian based curriculum. So yes there are international schools here, but I can imagine actually finding work here is another matter. I am sure the few jobs that are available would have a lot of applicants. You might have more luck finding teaching jobs in other parts of Indonesia.

actually he is in the middle of his own education and a part of the is a period in an foreign country. That part has to be partly education and partly practice in the an international school. He is not looking for a job with a salary but a period of teaching practice/ training in the school and then also some theory/ education. As I have been working with Bali for many years and living there as well it is very important for us that we can stay in Bali.

I think the problem you will have with your plan is that your husband will need a work permit to work legally. Even if you don't get paid, I believe you still need a working visa.

I think the question, if I have read it correctly isn't if he can get a job teaching English in Bali, but if he can take some courses to qualify him for teaching English internationally while in Bali. I'm not sure about that, but I know courses are available online as well.

THank you for your answer. Because of the rules of his education here in his own country he has to take a course in person and not on the internet. Otherwise....it should be a course in english on a high level. Do you know of that?

Hi, What you should do is to get in touch with your local Embassy and find out through them if there are any courses to qualify him for teaching English internationally while in Bali. Personally I don’t know. L.

We are from Denmark. He already speaks english but as a part of his education as a english teacher he needs to take more courses on high level english. This has to be a part of his study as a student abroad.

The thing is that the education in Denmark has never sent anybody to INdonesia and therefore he has to find out everything by himself.... That is why we are trying in this forum. Yes, I am aware that is probably not posible to find a teacher education tought in english in Bali, but I was thinking that maybe somebody did some private courses or workshops...maybe somebody connected to the schools. Otherwise it has to be an english course as I wrote before...what is the best? My husbond doesn't not have a university degree....he is just started his higher education...

There [i]might[/i] be some in reputable institutions of higher education, ("universities"), in Java. I'd be looking in Jakarta, Bandung, Jogjakarta, although that doesn't help [b][u]you[/u][/b]. Good place to start! Surely his university [i]should[/i] have a list of available/approved institutions for overseas' teaching practice. ([i]If not, I think I'd be asking for my money back.[/i]) There are many legitimate TEFL, TESL, TOEFL, etc, courses all over the world. They can even be studied on-line. Already having a university degree is not always essential, but will definitely help later, when looking for a "real" teaching position. Does your husband already have a degree and is now topping it up with a post-grad teaching qualification? ([i]Sorry - I'm not familiar with the education system in Denmark.[/i]) If he does, I suggest he talks more about his options with his own university, and take it from there. My "conclusions" here, based on very little, are: 1) I doubt that your husband can get a "practical teaching" position in Bali 2) He [i]might[/i] be able to get one somewhere else in Indonesia 3) I hope I'm wrong Good luck, in any case. :cry:

I may be wrong but I do not believe there is an internationally recognised English degree course in Bali. There must however be English degree's but I think these would be aimed at Indonesian/balinese students which is not what you are after. I think you will not get what you need here but the best person to ask would be Dr. Bruce. He does not post in here but I am sure you can get his email address. He taught in Indonesia for many years and has a lot of contacts.

It seems that IALF, (the Indonesian-Australian Language Foundation), runs "teacher-training" certificate programs courses in Bali, in partnership with Trinity College (London). The web-link spiceyayam posted works OK. However, I found a few links there that didn't work properly, (for me). This one seems fine: http://tesolbali.com/ I had a look myself, out of curiosity. I think the next available course is in November, 2009. Navigating through their website takes a bit of time to find out answers to obvious questions, such as "How much does it cost?", etc. From this link: http://tesolbali.com/faq.php we are told:

The course fee is US1,800.00. This includes tuition, assessment and moderation (the course is externally moderated by Trinity College London). If accepted onto the course following an interview, a US$400.00 down payment is necessary to secure a place.

That's USD 65/day,for a 4-week certificate. "Education" and "qualifications" don't come cheap. I hope you've managed to find some of the information you're looking for here. Our aim is to please. How does one say "ciao" in Danish? :D
