An epiphany...That is what it was...Earlier today someone brought up the fact of moving to Bali and retire now instead of waiting ten more years. It was this "Oprah Aha Moment" that drew me to find this forum. After reading for a short while, I knew I had to join and say greetings to you all. With this short message I take the first step towards Bali and you, my soon to be expatriate brothers and sisters. I look forward to the journey and to meeting you in person some day.
PS: I'm' sure I'll have plenty of questions for you in the next few days. Just wanted to say hi for now.

G'day Phletcher
I hope you enjoy all the interesting info and discussions on here. I have gathered such wonderful information and really enjoyed reading the discussions. I"m working all weekend to help pay for the two months I"ll be in Bali from July. I go for two months every year, until my retirement. Then yeah= I"ll live the dream. Good luck

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tina and I am in the process of purchasing a villa in Ungasan.
The villa I am looking at is on a old resort property and most villas are privately owned and get leased out. Ours in particular has been leased but has mainly been used by the current owner as a holiday house and he only attempts to lease out when he has to, to cover management fees and such. So I am wanting to purchase cheap local artwork, nicknacks and furniture to give the villa that "Bali feel". At the moment it would only be classed as a standard villa (no niceties) - I want to "pretty it up" and give it a wow factor (all other villas on the property have that - this one is the only one letting the entire team / resort / other owners down).
Does anyone have an recommendations in where to go (shops, local artists etc)? I want it to have a good Bali feel but obviously the cheaper the better! Eager to support local shops and family businesses, but if Depo is the best way to go then so be it.
Any ideas?

Sukawati south of Ubud has an arts and crafts market. It could be a good place for you to visit as you are starting

Also check the various handicraft shops along the main road through Tegallalang. Previously, I bought a load of interesting pieces at about half the price for the same items offered in Kerobokan and Seminyak.

Thanks ronb and matsaleh! Will take a look at both :)
