I keep posting what I believe to be a legitimate and, actually, quite constructive message regarding the future of this forum. My post has been deleted twice now without explanation. I used no profanity or language in any way disrespectful to anyone. I have had no PM or email from Fadmin. So I wonder what gives here? Has cencorship taken over here instead of communication? Perhaps anyone who happens to read this post before Fadmin again deletes it might like to comment in the forum also?
fadmin
Just your first post was deleted, becuase it was of the flaming kind. You other posts have been moved to the Members only section.
BTW I noticed you deleted the stink post yourself too, but then reposted it. Had any doubts?

Sorry Mike. As someone who runs a forum, I too would take offence at a post entitled "This Forum Stinks" especially, when like this forum, it actually does not and is one of the best Bali forums available.
For anyone who doesn't like the forum I wonder, and if you think you can do better my suggestion is give it a go. It is a pretty thankless task and IMHO Bert and now Teddy do a great job!

Mimpimanis,
I have a high degree of respect for you and many members of the forum so please take what I am saying in the manner I am trying to give it...
I have been offended many times on this forum. I am offended by a post that is currently up now...but I also agree that some posts are so highly offensive that they need to be removed. But what is the line? It is obvious that support for attacking the president of the United States is fine but the word stink isn't...a word most commonly used in the U.S. by 5-7 year old children. I dislike the inconsistency.

Well Hi there Jim!
As you have written some of the most offensive posts I've read anywhere (not just this forum) I would appreciate you sharing with me which of the present posts you particularly find offensive and I will try and coach my future replies to you in an identical stylie (free speech, hurrah!)
Jimbo
Everything in this worl is censored and there is no such thing as FREE SPEECH. If you think there is you are living in a fools paradise. Just think for a minute:
1. Treason is not free
2. Advocating child rape is not free
3. Advocating killing when you feel like it is not free
Why do people think that you can come on an internet site and just say what you like and have it accepted under the name of free speech. This forum has RULES which you sign up to when you join. If you do not like the rules by all means apply a cogent arguement to the Mod and try and get them to change their minds, if the do not accept it or go find a forum that suits you more.
Jim Thorpe
Markit,
It won't matter since I have you marked ignore...but what I really hate are posts that discuss the good things George Bush did in Africa in fighting AIDS. So if you write some posts like that it will really make me upset.
Jimbo, I think everyone knows you are not allowed to yell fire in a crowded theater...but in this case it wasn't child rape, treason, nor killing. It was saying a forum stinks and it was posted from a member in good standing. If this is a forum then that should have stood.
sydneymike
Can I just reiterate, I have never stated this forum "stinks". That is not a word that I use in my vocabulary actually. All the abuse is missing the point.
fadmin
The tilte of your post read something like "This forum is dying of boredom" and in you post you wrote something like "Somethink stinks in here".
I repeat, I found this a flame post, and therefore I deleted it.
If you intentions are to have a bit more "action" on the forum, you better not start off like that.
And again, you yourself deleted it also the first time you posted it, but then posted it again. So also you must have had some doubts if it was right, right?
fadmin
I rememeber "stink". Wonder where I got it from then.
But, lets forget it. The original is gone.
Where I live is of no importance, but surely we inherit some of the traits of our neigbors I guess.
Now Sydneymike, what do we need?
Bert Vierstra
This passionate "man" has sad awful personal things about me and my wife, and was about to send the police to my house. For me that was the end, after trying to keep him "inline" with some basic social stuff for years. FOR YEARS. Am I perfect, no. Definitely not. Have I done or said stupid things? Sure.
His balance has turned the wrong way, unfortunately, but the end is the end. Often I have been criticized for letting him on again. Of course Teddy is the new admin, but her decision was influenced by me at the time.
And I really wish we could leave discussions about this man from the forum.
There are enough passionate Bali people, lets just hope they come out of the closet.
Bert Vierstra
Oh, and I would like to add, that posting complaints about the "entertainment value" of the forum is not really adding anything, accompanied by "strong words" or not.
There have been plenty of people sharing stuff about their Bali adventures, good or bad, with not only entertainment value, but also teaching (indirectly) here and there.
I am more in the movie mood at the moment, but its fun to share.
sydneymike
Sorry, I beg to differ and I have a complete electronic record via my Company's VPN in the US, which I would be pleased to post?
You are correct about the header, it was "This forum is dying of terminal boredom" or words to that effect but, again, I insist that I NEVER used the word "Stink" anywhere in my post. This word is simply not in my vocabulary and, in reviewing the record with our webmaster in the US, is simply not there.
So you are not correct and it remains the truth that my post was not profane, was not disrespectful and was not in any way to be seen as a flame. Big deal? No not really, but I don't appreciate being accused of something I did not do and then being called a liar. Call me old fashioned.
Therefore, I maintain that the deletion of my original post amounts to petulance and petty censorship.
Perhaps you have not noticed the present standards for online fora? Many allow profanity and many mainstream media blogs allow anything goes. So, and this is not the point, your attitudes towards censorship are looking very dates and old-fashioned. I guess Noth Bali has been cut off from the rest of the world for too long?
Tony
Quite frankly, I find the whole censorship thing every bit as boring and childish as I find anyone being "offended" by ANYTHING posted on an online forum. Understandably, there may be some things said about the government that could cause problems for a forums administrators and hosting service depending on what country those servers are located. Beyond that... I just don't get it. You guys sound like children from where I sit.
Sure, things have gotten heated here in the past. Personally, that's one of the things I found most attractive. And, the one that turned up the heat most was equally one of the most passionate, knowledgeable in many areas of Bali living (afterall he DOES live there) and helpful contributors in addition to being one of the most opinionated. Now he's gone and IMHO, the forum suffers because of the banning. I suspect I'm not alone in that attitude based on the amount of recent activity here and the quality of that activity. I used to check in here several times each day... now I'm down to a couple of times a week. If JT keeps harping on some stupid thread about GWB that he finds so bloody offensive, I just might delete the link from my bookmarks altogether.
My advice... if you don't like or are offended by what you read on any forum, don't log on. That's how adults handle things.
sydneymike
Why don't you combine these threads into one so that people are not confused? It was the Fadmin that created this mess in the first place, so if we can now get back to one thread, a more serious debate might ensue?
Jim Thorpe
SidneyMike,
I think you ought to give it up...I think we made the point and probable more.
fadmin
Great guys, wonderful contributions from your side.
this forum is not (petty) censored. I repeat NOT censored.
My interpretation of Sydneymikes post was that of a flame post, therefore it was deleted.
Can we leave it to that?
Markit
Censorship in it's many forms has been discussed here and probably on every other forum or meeting place where adults come together (children are uncensorable, rightly so!).
Censorship is misplaced in normal adult society and, again, rightly so. As adults we are responsible for what we say and do and answer for this with our good name. And there's the rub with the censorship debate - we don't have "a good name" online, in fact we don't have any name. We are not responsible for what is said online in any way, and again rightly so.
But with this freedom we must give the responsibility to someone else for what is said or otherwise communication would grind to a halt under the weight of insulted and hurt feelings - hence the need for censorship.
Having the freedom to be and say what you want will always have a price - rightly so!
sydneymike
So combine all the posts and allow me to post the complete record of what I have posted, then we can have a sensible discussion. So far, Fadmin would have you believe that I committed the cardinal sin of using the word "Stink" in thos holy forum. I can, with the electronic records from a major US Corporation, prove that is not correct. Even if it were, aren't we all grown ups here? Do none of you use words worse than "Stink" every day?
What we are dealing with here is petty cencorship because Fadmin didn't like my views. That is the definition of cencorship, incidentally. The other issue is of lies and the questioning of my personalintegrity. Please just allow me to publish the full electronic record of all posts? I can link it so it won't take up too much of your bandwidth.
Seems reasonable?
josefk
Sorry fad(sic)admin...we can't...your attitude actually stinks
Ban me too...I rarely post anymore as this forum has gone to the (Bali) dogs
