Anton, Y2K was horses#@t, I lol when the theory was first postulated. However, since ignorance is the first cousin of stupidity, many fools bought into the notion. By contrast, today's situation is very real. I love how they eliminate the human factor by referring to millions of foreclosed properties and trashed pension plans as toxic assets. These toxic assets (former homeowners and peon investors attempting to eke out a half decent retirement profile) are still people, stupid people who thought they could afford 200k + homes on a McDonald's wage or, swim with the sharks in the stock market like Bernie Madoff (scapegoat) but still these people nonetheless are being pushed into the deep end of the pool with weight belts on. Many of the ringleaders of this fiasco higher up on the food chain absolutely knew this was coming and were probably counting on it as a means of gobbling up as much valuable real estate as possible. Still, I wonder where the trillions of dollars disappeared to? It's not in China. The Chinese and the Russians are seriously considering dumping the US$ altogether. Where the hell did all that money go!? The US government claims not to have it hence, the need to print up billions more. Do nervous grandmothers all across the US have it stuffed in their mattresses? Was it spent on middle eastern wars? Perhaps, like the most recent US presidential election it's all merely a dog and pony show, an elaborate distraction to keep us blind to a situation much more grave. Is anyone on the forum aware that the earth's magnetosphere has lost 40% of its protective strength over the past fifty years? My theory may seem a little far-fetched to some until one reviews the latest stats on skin cancer (or, cancer in general) and glaucoma in the sunbelt, especially in places like Oz. We're already cooking baby, like the frog in a pan of water being slowly brought to a boil or, in our case the microwave oven scenario. Thoughts anyone? Don :) :twisted: :) :twisted:

[/quote] Your theory is rather far fetched indeed, given the fact that the culprit in skin cancer and glaucoma has everything to do with the sun's UV radiations and nothing to do with the solar wind particles, which never reach the ground, even in the polar regions. :lol: :lol:

If so, you must be a mediocre player, beset with an unwavering predictability. You must admit though, enormous breaches in the magnetosphere certainly makes for some pretty interesting reading. No one has ever conceived of such large breaches in the magnetosphere, so no one really knows what will happen in the event of an extremely large solar storm, outside of electronic communication and other tech failures......including you dear grenouille. Your best guess is as good as mine or, the guess of anyone else for that matter. No matter the magnitude of the magnetic storm, it does not change the energy spectrum of the solar wind, so we know that people on the ground are pretty safe. My opinion, and that of other geophysicists knowledgeable in this field, is not exactly a guess, for the good reason that it is based on fundamental physics principles, whereas your blabbing is just that, blabbing about something you do not have a clue about and don't understand (Actually, I happen to have a small expertise in this field, having worked under contract from the Air Force Geophysical Labs, AFGL, in Bedford, MA, for more than fifteen years, on and off, analyzing satellite data of Earth Particles and Fields, and having designed couple of satellite instrumentations for them). But if you are so interested in the phenomenon, why don't you first get your information from a scientific journal instead of from your daily paper, understand the subject, and then you could possibly emit an opinion, which maybe, a BIG maybe, would make sense.
