Hi
Made has brought his Apple over from Lombok and I was hoping to get him online here using my wireless connection, however Apple uses a whole different language and I can not even figure out if it has wireless (I was assuming yes as Made got it from a guest who was using it while travelling.)
I have tried opening a browser going to tools and looking at the options. I have tried going to My Computer and trying to find networks. No joy.
Can anyone tell me how I would switch on and connect and apple to a wireless connection?
Thanks
lumumba
I DON’T KNOW WHICH OPERATING SYS. APPLE USING, BUT IF IS LIKE MICROSOFT, GO TO CONTROL PANEL, NET WORK AND INTERNET CONNECTION. FROM HERE YOU CAN;
SET UP OR CHANGE YOUR CONNECTION
SET UP A WIRELESS CONNECTION

Hi Lumumba
It isnt like Microsoft, which is the problem.
Everything has different names and a different set up.
I hate it :x
But is is Made's so he of course loves it even though he cant use it

Hello Kadek,
I was thinking of you the other day, wondering if you too had left this forum. So im happy to hear you here again. :D
mimpimanis
Ok Kadek thanks for that will give it a try now and let you know.
Chilli, we have wireless at home :D

Hi Mimpi,
My Apple laptop uses Mac OS X operating system. To connect to the internet using wireless connection you have to go to Network under System Preference.
How to get there:
1. Click Finder (Start in microsoft). 'This is usually the first icon (it looks like a face) on the docking station. Scroll down until you find System Preference. Then under Internet & Network double click Network. You must choose AirPort On. It will ask you to choose your Network Name. Then you need to enter your network's WEP Key (the password you set up when you set up the security key for your internet connection).
2. Or you can simply click the System Preference icon on the docking station (it looks like the inner working of a watch). Then follow the same steps as above.
Hopefully your modem and router will allow Mac system access otherwise it might not work, but Bert might be able to tell how to enable this??
Good luck!
Kadek
P.S by simply moving your mouse on top of each icon, it will tell you what it is and with a bit of patience, you will start to see that it is not much more complicated then Microsoft system.

Hi Gemma,
ive just mooved from PC to Apple and its been one headache after another. I am told that
once you get the hang of it there is no turning back, so im still waiting. !!
Which model of Apple is it ? because it should already have built in wireless.
I doubt you would have free wireless access zooming about in your suburb. You could try taking the laptop to a net free cafe' and turn it on and see what happens. OR
can you ring your server providor and they should assist in configuring it so you can
use both your computers at home.
Ill try and help as much as my limited knowledge with Apple will allow, I am learning more each day.
Apple doesnt use microsoft, it uses MAC OSX , and it isnt internet explorer but safari, or better still, download firefox (its organic and the safest available).

:(
1. Click Finder (Start in microsoft). 'This is usually the first icon (it looks like a face) on the docking station. Scroll down until you find System Preference.
Get this far but under preference can not find Internet & network. There is only General, labels, Sidebar & Advanced and there is no Internet option on any of those when I click.
It is possible Made has deleted stuff on the laptop without nowing it. He did delete somthing that interferred with his ability to play music on it.. Oh well
Thanks anyway Kadek and as Chilli said nice to see you are still here :D

Hello Kadek,
Do you have firefox installed ?
mimpimanis
Thanks Kadek
We were going to take it to a repair place yesterday when we were out but were too tired on the way home so didnt bother. I will try what you have suggested now and if that still doesnt work we will take it tomorrow.
I can't get to grips with it at all being so used to Microsoft!
mimpimanis
yaaay! Got onto my wireless coneection, thanks Kadek. Now I am just trying to figure out how to open a browser. There is no Internet Explorer or Mozilla icon anywhere :?
mimpimanis
Just found it! Now Made is as happy as the proverbial pig
Thanks again for your help Kadek, I wouldnt have managed to get him on without your input!

Can I ask what email you both use on Apple?
I have been trying to set up an email account. I gave up on hotmail & google - didnt seem to be possible so googled what was best with apple and found gmail but even with that I am having problems it just keeps asking for the security code again and again and again must have tried 20 times and had enough of it now!

Must be your security settings of the browser. Tell it to accept cookies.
chilli
But not third party cookies, correct ? :?
mimpimanis
Online and with an email account now. It seems to be because we were using IE which was not supported. Chilli told me about Safari and now we are up & running.
Thanks to Kadek, Chilli & Bert! :D

I don't know what the solution could be. I have only switched to Apple last year and so I don't know any of the older version of Apple operating system. Well not really complete switch as I am using both Mac and Microsoft at home.
On my laptop there is another possible way to access Network. There are symbols like battery, time, magnifying for search speaker, etc, (on my computer these symbols are located on top right hand corner). next to the speaker symbol there is a symbol for internet connection (I think you can say it as a frequency symbol?). This is dark when you have a network connection and grey when it is not. When you click on this it will give you a drop down menu and you can choose Open Network Preferences, this will take you directly to a pop up screen Network where you can do the connection to your internet provider as I described previously.
Other than this perhaps do a global search (called Spotlight) for internet or network. If these options are still in your computer somewhere then it will find it for you. But if as you say, it may have been deleted, then I don't know...
Regards
Kadek
ps. yes I am still reading the forum sometime. maybe it is a habit that is hard to leave behind

Is this where it is displaying a code with upper and lower case letters and digits in a very wavy image - and you are supposed to copy it exactly. I find the Google version of this security check is often tricky - is it I, or l or 1, is it 0 or o or O, and two letters may run togetther is it "rn" or "m".
Don't give up, you will get through!

Hi Ron
yes that's what I meant. But there was no box with the code in, where there should be. So I created the account on my laptop but when I tried to login on Made's I still couldn't. Not until we switched to Safari as a browser that is. Once we did that everything started working fine :D

Sounds like you are becoming a real computor geek/wizard Mimpi
