Thanks to everyone that posts on this forum it has helped me everytime I got to bali, although I have only been 3 times I have loved the Island more with each visit. Such a magical place I always learn something new when I go there.. And the people, well they are just so welcoming.

Keep that magic by staying on your guard and know they are normal humans with human motives, greed, wants and notions.
Jimbo
I am a member of several other forums on or to do with Bali but this one is my favourite. It seems to be the only one that does not have a nationalistic flavour with members from all continents and even better has its members from Indonesia as well (although not enough)
Most of the other are things like JBR's.....xxxx amount of sleeps to go etc or which hotel shall I stay in. Not that there is anything fundementally wrong with that but this forum has had some good discussions and its archives are absolutely full of good information and advice.
People have come and gone over the years I have been here and for a variety of reasons but I think it will always survive because it is truly international. What do you think?

I agree Jimbo.
But it would be a plus if people thought about politeness on an international scale before they post.
Some members trash Australians, some trash Italians, some trash everyone.
Would people speak this way face to face in real life ?
projectile vomit isnt very appealing (even in cyber world).

I could not agree more with you...

I agree whole heartedly Jimbo, a bit of common sense in posting and respect for other posters and members costs nothing and easy to do. I also enjoy the international flavour of this forum. I only post occasionaly when at home from work, but catch up on all posts when i do return. I was away last week when Roy again was Roy, , He is very helpful and knows bali backwards, but unfortunatly seemed to lose it sometimes. He will be missed, but have noticed it seems much nicer on here lately :)

agree whole heartedly too goldminer but you just have to know how to take RT i guess. it's his passionate side that gets him into strife i suppose. international flavour gets me going too and i think some/most of the discussion is pretty good and i have learnt most of the real things about bali just by listening to Phil Roy DCC Bert and others. im glad you are still here mate cos i like what i read when you speak
goldminer
Dasha, I enjoyed Roys posts and his knowledge. He was very helpful, he even helped me set up my avatar. His passion for Bali was very evident to all. I do miss his posts, even his agro... but life goes on. Regards.

Another of the usual "Roy, come back!" to the strains of 1950s Hollywood music as Alan Ladd slowly rides into the sunset.
Grow the feck up people - the guy was an attention mad, border-line sociopath of the worst kind. Every discussion, whether he knew anything about it or not was immediately turned to his purposes. Anything that anybody in the forum wanted to know was irrelevant and discussion was immediately turned to something Roy wanted to talk about. And he was always there, I mean irregardless of the time in Bali or wherever. You posted and Roy answered - whether he knew anything or not.
Admittedly he may have known much about Bali, but so do many of the contributors here. They just didn't often get a chance to answer thanks to Roy.
I am not shy to say that I'm glad he's gone and look forward to taking part in a much more democratic and interesting forum because of it.
Anybody that misses him can join him on his blog or look back through the archives.

yes i had an afternoon with him up at his compound in 2007 goldminer, it was marc whales (another really funny character) that took me over there. the thing is when you take the time to meet these great people (bert also) you tend to get a better perspective on their comments. both are wordsmiths and both are big men and i must say that being true expats (phil included of course) you can't really argue with them. although i would not put bert and phil in the same "maintenance" department as RT!

Oh yes markit, 'cos your posts are always so respectful, democratic and relevant aren't they?

Markit, Roy had his faults, i will grant you that. He also helped many people on here. You have many faults, but i am yet to see any good ones... :P

Dasha

Last we heard he was trying to escape from Thailland or some place local to there.... he had misplaced his Indian passport and they would not let him out.. Johhny Cool knows the background i believe.
