PS...we also own this one Daniel, but as you can understand with three young boys around the house, it is neither framed, or hung...again, no pun intended! :)

Don't worry Roy, this forum is owned by my brother in the Netherlands since a few days. Technically is falls under Dutch law. Its also hosted there.
I am just helping my brother out a bit by managing it. :mrgreen:

Good news Bert. Since you're going to be a daddy soon, a little more insulation makes a lot of sense! Cheers!

I dare not illustrate this painting here, (I’d hate to have to visit Bert in Kerobokan :D ), but you can use the link below to view it…however, I warn you that it contains very graphic adult content and should not be viewed by children.
Erotic art in Bali is rare. Some readers may even be surprised to learn that it existed at all. In the hall of justice, the ceiling views showing the sins of man touch on the erotic, but they are not to the extent as seen in this early Batuan School painting by I Dewa Beng dating from the late 40’s to early 50’s. I Gusti Nyoman Lempad created some extremely erotic drawings…Pak Purpa has a suberb collection of twelve of them, carefully bound in a book made by Lempad.
Both the Ubud and Batuan school of traditional Balinese painting was heavily influenced by colonial artists starting in the early 1920’s eventually culminating in the Pita Maha Association, based in Ubud. For some reason the Kamasan School remained relatively free of such influence. Whether or not eroticism in Balinese art can be directly attributed to foreign influence is debatable, and it is often debated among scholars of Balinese art. As rare as purely erotic Balinese art is, examples pre-dating the 1930’s are impossible to find.
After your eyes have adjusted, study the background carefully and note the Bali squirrels, birds, rabbits, deer and etc. who are also involved. This is a most interesting and rare piece of early Balinese traditional painting that I hope offends no one.
Once again, this is for adult only viewing. You may need to click on the image to enlarge…no pun intended.

Very nice paintings Roy, I must say in the linked painting the artist has been rather generous in his portrayal of the male subjects :shock:. My preference, however, would be the Snel - absolutely beautiful painting and I spent quite a long time just looking at the photo of it, I expect it is quite something to see the original.

I have seen this massive Hindu Temple in person called the "Sun Temple" in Orissa India that has immages much like these but by the thousands carved into the stone temple several stories high,on all four sides.Much more explicit than that................
on another subject;
I am sure you have seen the destroyed paintings in the Ubud Art museum? Detroyed I mean Where the genitals were someone has used a verry invasive tool and errased the body parts. How childish can one get! You dont deface art.....................You just dont!

OK then all is well,We fully understand the openminded Dutch mentality towards sex/nudity :lol: ,How horrible it would be if the Netherlands had Vandals defacing nudes in museums of Amsterdam! THank Goodness NOT! :lol:
Back on the subject of sex in paintings;
The more suppression a society/religion has the more violence and latent -closet perversion that creeps out manifesting in wars/violence/domestic imbalances/justified rapes/acid throwing/beatings..........................what a shame,
Knowledge sets us free.
Free from preconceved illusions of what is acceptable or not,brainwashed by unlogical ideas,fanatic dilusions. :roll:

The original idea of homeopathy, which is curing with similars, dates back to Hippocrates in the fourth century B.C. He believed there were two possible ways to cure people, by contraries or by similars. "Allopathy" modern medicine -has followed the way of the contraries through the centuries, while "homeopathy" has championed treating with similars.
In the latter part of the eighteenth century Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician founded and elaborated a therapeutic science based on curing with similars. He discovered that a medicine that could produce a particular disease scenario during provings on healthy people, would cure those same symptoms when found in the sick.
shall we go on?

Ok :roll:
then lets move on ..................the subject of Art in Bali.
I read somewhere that prior to tourism from the west Bali was still in its natural state of bliss.........meaning NO hangups about Nudity (the baline's women were famous for being topless) this is not anymore.
Same goes for the art........................................The Island has been impregnated by ignorance,standards of moderation that fit WHO? Certainly not the balinese................

I can defend homeopathy in scientific posts a mile long,do you really want me to open up pandora's box again? It is not A NEW AGE TYPE OF MEDICINE.................. :roll: .............................!Its been around for 200+yrs discovered by a scientist/MD in allopathics,that was horrified by how invasive /intrusive/and useless modern medicine was/is.Do you want more...........................You started the subject?
Regards defacing Art(back on the subject of erotic art) So your saying its OK to do this?
You and me know verry well what TYPE of people are responsible for this sort of vandalism! And I am nOT speaking of the Hindu's on Bali...................................... :cry:

People tend to idealize the past. Also the past of Bali. I don't know if life in Bali was better 50, a 100 or 200 years ago. Or 400 years ago before Europeans had set foot on Bali. Certainly there was more "nudity". Probably the death rate for children was higher. Certainly the pollution was less. Certainly life expectancy was less. Probably there were more wars amongst the Balinese themselves. Probably there was more malnutrition. Probably there was more superstition.
That woman started covering up their breasts once because of the Dutch "rulers" about 60-70 years ago is something that is considered a tale. Most likely woman started to imitate the western people they saw coming more often to their island. It has been said that the Balinese themselves wanted to "cover-up" because of fear of being looked at as "exotic primitives".
Yes Bali is Paradise. The Paradise people need to have in their minds to "fight" their own unhappiness and misfortune. Bali is like the innocent kids they once were, they treat "their Bali" as if it was their own lost innocence, or innocence under threat. People happily join the fairy tales of Bali, throw in a few of their own, as if it were the "make belief" games of their youth.
Yes, Bali is a spiritual island :D

As Bert stated previously, this is not the place to discuss these issues. If members want to read about homeopathy or any other "alternative" therapies, they can search Google to find appropriate sites.:roll:
This forum was set up to discuss issues pertaining to BALI.... full stop!
