Dammit!! Same as you Mimpimanis, I thought it was a planned future one. I am in Bali ATM till next Friday and was hoping I could meet some/all of the expats here.
Ahh well, maybe Christmas when I am back again.
Bert, maybe you could organise a small gathering every once and a while, then post the planned date. For those in Bali at the time it would be fantastic to meet some of you guys in person.

gtrken, where are you staying at the moment? We just arrived back from Lovina and will be in Kuta until we have to go home on 10 Nov red-eye flight. PM if you want to catch up sometime...even though we are only wannabe expats and haven't managed the leap into full time Bali yet.

Yep, of course that's possible.
On the other hand, we expats who are actually living in Bali, have no way to tell how many "forum posters" [i]might[/i] turn up for such an event. Like, some of us might be sitting somewhere on the island waiting long hours for people to show up. That's OK, too, (most of us are used to "waiting").
How about somebody prints tickets in advance, arranges some sponsors, bung on a chook or seafood raffle, free T-shirts, and door-prizes, (new motorbike, big LCD TV, ten thousand litres of petrol, free Bali street-dog, life-time supply of Bintang, free monthly [i]Joged[/i] performances. etc). [b]And[/b] the ability to pay [i]via[/i] credit card, PayPal, whatever.
Having just written the above, it [i]could[/i] be viable, (and not as silly as it sounds). I'm sure you can appreciate some of the logistics that could be involved.
Apart from all of that, for [u]any[/u] forum members here who would [i]really[/i] like to meet some of us in person, just send us a [b]PM [/b](personal message), and take it from there. A round-about way of saying you're all welcome!
I have personally had the pleasure of meeting quite a few individuals from this website. Perhaps more significantly, some of them have become personal friends. (Only one major dick-head, so far, but them's the breaks.)

And now, just a few thoughts on "avatars".
Various definitions of "avatar" exist in English language dictionaries. Three "simple" ones include:
(1) An icon or animation to represent a participant
(2) A new personification of a familiar idea
(3) The manifestation of a Hindu deity (especially Vishnu), in human, superhuman or animal form
Number #1 is, I believe, how most people would see it.
In this sense, the "avatar" is a "representation" of somebody. Can be anything. A picture of a smiling tomato, a bouncing banana, anything.
Those amongst us who demean the spirit of avatars, by revealing or showing they "know" the [b]true[/b] identity behind the "representation", are possibly paranoid, have unresolved personal issues in their lives, can't stand "anonymity" in any shape of form, can't play cricket, or want to be seen as people who can't be "fooled" by avatars in the first place.
My avatar [b]is[/b] a picture of me, but it's from a long time ago. I'm older now and don't wear scarves or Balinese head-bands any more. Maybe I will update it, soon. Decisions, decisions. What about a dripping durian? (Hope that's OK in December, and not deemed to be "porno".)
And far be it for mere me to have any association with the third definition. But there are [i]some[/i] among us who [i]just[/i] might.
