This may or may not impact in Bali but it just keeps it on topic.I am sure many have followed the news on Gaza and now the bombing in Jerusalem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this can be stopped. It is revenge and counter revenge and personally I cannot see an end to it.Isreal tends to send back the violence caused by the rocket attacks several fold causing condemnataion for their tactics but then Gaza keeps sending rockets and so on repeating itself.I am sad to see this violence but can see no end in site. Can you. Can this constant aggression affect Indonesians and possibly Bali again. Two questions there to answer.

Returning to the 1967 borders and a halt on building settlements might be a start...simply going along with the odd UN resolution. But really the die was cast in the 1940s when the world decided to toss a bunch of people off their land and let a another bunch who were never going to get along with them have it. One of the 20th century's worst political decisions.

Will it affect Bali? Well I guess we all hope not and no-one really knows but I do think that Indonesia has handled the post 2002 situation rather well. The mix of a strong stick and a carrot and not the sort of over-reaction clamoured for by overseas parties may hopefully have paid off. The 'war on terror', whatever the hell that is, seems to have been waged rather more successfully here than in much of the rest of the world. Most Indonesians don't want any part of it and indeed, even if they did, are more concerned with getting on with their lives. By and large, this is not a violent nation despite the odd aberration. But the middle east....Gaza is one thing but Iraq has only just begun to play out...its a disaster and its not getting any better. All I can hope is that sanity prevails and Iran is not attacked otherwise we are all f**ked.Righto, that's the world's problems sorted...off to Singapore....

Here are some news in today's Haaretz newspaper. - Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman MK Avigdor Lieberman said at a Knesset plenary meeting on Monday, addressing Arab MKs, that "a new administration will be established and then we will take care of you." (I wonder what Lieberman means by "we will take care of you") - Jerusalem plans 400 new homes for Jews in eastern part of capital. (That's in East Jerusalem, where the Palestinians would like to make their capital!)

If there is one thing the last 60 years of the Jewish "fight for independence" has shown then it is that there aint no solution so long as either the Arabs live near there or the Jews. I repeat: Give em Nebraska - hell, there aint more than 5 people living there and you could probably get Warren Buffet to give each of them $5 million to move (knowing Nebraska, $5 in singles would probably be enough to get em gone). I mean, it's just a damn desert - and they just love deserts, look how hard they fight for it.
