Hi.
I'm looking for tickets .. when I found a very interesting one on Singapore Airline.
I call they for have some more infos and they ask to me if I can go to Indonesia and expat my country (italy) just with one-way ticket?
Is suppose that local-immigration will not leave me fly cause I need a go and back ticket ???
Tomorrow I will call ID Embassy in Rome ...

That's not quite correct. I've entered Indonesia on one-way ticket many times - it depends on your visa.
If you are entering on a tourist visa you generally need to have an onward ticket out of Indonesia - that could just be a return flight to Singapore. But if you are coming in on a tourist visa you need to leave farily shortly anyway, so why wouldn't you have that return already organised?
If you are coming in on a social budaya you don't need an onward ticket. Sometimes you get asked by the airline staff when you check in where your onward ticket is, and you explain you are not on a tourist visa - but immigration at Bali will not ask for an onward ticket if you are on a social visa.

Yeah well that's kinda what I mean. Manuel was talking about going to Indonesia in other topics too and not with a social budaya visa so that's why 8)

I thought Manuel had posted about a social visa - querying price with Bali IDE etc. Anyway, for people reading the archives it was worth expanding the answer a bit.

Hi FreoGirl
I'm going crazy!
It's really difficult to find RIGHT informations about this problem.
That's for sure that I can go outside my country (Italy) with a one-way ticket.
The problem now is that I dont know if I can ENTER Indonesia (Bali) with a Social Sosyal Budaya Visa + One-way airticket !!
Reading your post you do it many times, it's sure ???
You know where I can get safe informations ???
'cause i dont to have problems once I get in ngurah rai airport !
THANKS !
matsaleh
I agree totally Freo. I did not have to provide details of a return ticket to either the Indonesian Consulate in Sydney or to Immigration upon arrival at Ngurah Rai.
manuel
thank you for answers girls !!!!

What I do not understand is why you would not have a return ticket? It has to be cheaper than two singles unless of course you do not inend to return!
FreoGirl
Jimbo, these days a lot of the budget airlines sell their tickets as one-way, they don't offer a discount for a return. You are often better off sourcing the return once you know when you want to go, and get the best deal for the day. This seems to be especially true for discount fares Singapore - Bali - Singapore.

Hi Manuel
You definately don't need an onward ticket if you entering on a social budaya - believe me I've done it many times. I initially got confirmation from my local Indonesian consulate in Australia.
The only time I was ever questioned was when Qantas check-in asked - but as soon as I told them I wasn't on a tourist visa it was ok. Immigrasi at Bali never ask for an onward ticket if you are on a social visa.
Phone your local consulate/embassy in Italy - tell them you are going on a Social Budaya and ask if you need an onward ticket - they should say no!
I know this is crazy - welcome to Indonesia - it is very difficult to get the right information, and people often have different experience from others. Maybe some other forum posters can confirm your experiences please?

we got hella great tickets one-way with air china. It was half or less of doing a return. The Indo Embassy in Canada is trying to get me to show an ongoing ticket for the social visa, but I have been reassured by others that once I start the process I should be ok. I was also told by the embassy that I was going to have to prove what I was doing in Indo, but my sponsor thinks that once we submit the paperwork we will be fine. Difficult to get info, and when I talked to the embassy they were really strict and discouraging I found, but I shall persevere!!! If no luck then will get tourist visa with return ticket to Singapore, as Freo said.

im in same boat as you mega.. i dont have an outbound ticket yet just 1 way !!!. but will wait for London Embassy to tell me if i need it or not..
let me kow how you get on as im not going until FEB 08!!!

Even though the sosial budaya and the 60 day tourist visa may be the same 211 document, I noticed that the name of my sponsor is now listed on my sosial budaya.
This was not the case previously, so I'd suggest that Immigration are issuing the same document, but completing different details according to the intended length of stay.
Whether the 60 day visa can be extended to 180 days with the addition of a sponsor, after the initial 60 days, remains to be seen.

I also have come here with one-way tickets - no problem - and agree that with budget airlines this makes sense.
But I remeber..., soon after the London undergound bombings, an Indian doctor in Australia, Mohammed Haneef, was nabbed as a suspected terrorist just before he left Brisbane, and the Aust Federal Police said his one-way ticket was one factor that made them think he was potentially a terrorist. Since then the case against him collapsed and there have been red faces. Some backgorund here

I got back my passport including social visa from Indonesian Consulate Frankfurt (Germany) this week. Just one-way-ticket to Bali was ok. Bali I'm back again on monday. :-) :-)
FreoGirl
Just so typical of the visa experience in Indonesia. My consulate in Perth Australia does not require onward ticket, the one in Frankfurt doesn't, but the one in Ottawa does. I wonder if the Ottawa embassy is being 'strict' or if they just have poor training, I suspect the later.
If you needed an onward ticket you would have issues on arrival - which I have never, ever had. And neither have many other friends who also live in Indonesia.

The form I completed this time at the consulate in Sydney also asked for a copy of my itinerary or return/onward airline ticket. As I hadn't confirmed my flight booking at the time of applying, I submitted the form without either. I collected my passport with the sosial budaya 5 days later. So, it seems that even "official" is not official. Go figure.
