Hi.
Three months ago when I was in Bali-Bali
i bought a TELKOMSEL SIMpati-ekstra SIM card for my mobile phone.
My answer is: I will be in ID in less than one month, the sim will be still ACTIVE?
I dont have any credit insiede.
Thanks!
Which company you use?
Which are the differences?
How much cost a sim card, I forgot!
Terima kasih
Manuel

I use Mentari - for international calls to Oz, enter the right prefix numbers and they are the same rate as local calls - Sim card paid for itself 1st time I dialled home. 50K for the card I think. Dunno if there is much separating the different cards for local calls only.

Manuel, Bali sim cards only stay active if they have credit (pulsa) on them. The more credit, the longer the activation period.
Take a look at the link below. Activation periods for various sim cards are listed about halfway down the page.

Personally, I use ProXL, as I find their service the most reliable.

i suspected this, like in Thailand ... damn.

That probably included some credit too. Mobile rates are pretty cheap in Indonesia :)

uhm..
somebody know how I can try from here (italy) to check if it's active or not ??
maybe give the number to somebody in ID and try to call me...
if the voice say 'number unactive' so....
or 'mobile is off' should be active ...
dunno' ... what you think?

I think for use in other countries, yr prepaid card should have a minimum amount of pulsa. Something like 200.000 if i remember well.
You also may have to choose you provider abroad manually.

Manuel, if you are just trying to test if the number is still active (presumably so you can give the number to people so they can call you when you are in Bali), then calling it from Italy or Indonesia would do the same test.
However, I think if the SIM is not in a phone, it will not 'ring'. If the number has been given to someone else, they will answer. Likely you will get the usual 'out of range' 'switched off' message in bahasa Indonesia, which is not going to tell you anything.
This is what we do when we go to Bali - as soon as we get there we buy a new SIM and then SMS our number back to family / friends at home.
Probably the best option if that is your concern.

I topped up my Mentari the other day and it said valid until April 2009! There are major cellphone wars underway here tight now, so I think the terms have changed.
