Damsiah is going to Lombok tomorrow, and Garuda just rang and informed us that his 8am flight is now leaving at 4pm. So instead of getting in at 11.30am he is getting in at 7.30pm.
Does anyone know if the buses from Batubulan still run at night up to PandangBai?
Alternatively does anyone have any idea what it would cost for a taxi or private transport from Denpasar to Padang Bai?

Hey Freo,
When I visit my family in Padangbai I always use private transport and that costs me about 250.000 Rp. for a daytrip. That means driver waits for me whole day and drives me back in late afternoon. For a dropoff it should be a little less than that.
Don't know about busses, don't like them
Greeting Nakal.

Hi Freo
I don't know for sure but I doubt there are any buses to Padangbai from Batubulan at night. There aren't even any directly to Ubud. And as there are definitely no government ferries to Lombok at night, what would be the point in rushing to get up there in the first place? Better to spend the night down South, in my opinion, and go tomorrow.
If I'd known about this sooner, I might have been able to do the run myself for much less than Rp 250,000. Just the cost of my petrol.
Sorry if this is too little too late. Hope things work out OK.

Thanks for the generous offer 8) If we'd known sooner would have changed the flight to a different day so could connect with internal flight - but they only advised us last night that the flight is delayed by 8 hours.

Are you sure about that? Government ferries from Panang Bai to Lombok leave every 2 hours, round the clock. Most locals want to go around midnight because the water is calmer then.
Unless something major has changed very recently that I haven't heard about?? :?:
Anyway, (and in case anyone else is interested), just got an sms from friend in Bali who says that this Sat and Sun (but not during the week?) the buses will still leave from Batubulan to Candi Dasa/Padang Bai up until midnight (to cope with the extra travel as end of Ramadan approaches we presume).
Wish I was going too - this trip is just Damsiah - I have to keep the nose to the grindstone.

I don't know what I was thinking...blame it on that bottle of Cuban rum a few nights ago plus the Bombay Sapphire gin. I know - I know. No real excuse and I apologise profusely. I might be getting Alzheimer's from too much aluminium in my deodorants.
Anyhow, I hope Damsiah got there OK.

Got an SMS from Damsiah 3am Monday morning, he was waiting for the ferry to enter Lembar on Lombok.
The plane left Perth nearly 2 hours late (so in total was delayed 10 hours), he found someone outside the airport in Bali who was happy to take him to Padang Bai for 250K, which put in perspective was a good deal less than the cost of a taxi from our home to the airport in Perth which is 20kms away.
Ferries still leave every 2 hours (or there-abouts), quite busy right now with extra supplies for Ramadan and all the extra travel as people go home for Hari Raya.
So he was home in Mataram by sunrise, and happy that he didn't have to find a hotel in Bali for the night. Few hours sleep at the musalah next door, and woken by his kids when they came home at lunch-time. Everyone is happy.
