Hi guys,
I was studying in Java and Bali for a year and fell in love with the country and am desperate to get back and work there. I speak fluent bahasa but am having trouble figuring out the best way to look for work. I'm particually interested in Bali. If you have any useful tips or contacts that would be great!
Cheers Nina.

Well, I will have finished my Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist) in Indonesian by November and am currently doing a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) with Certificates in English Grammar and Teaching Business English. I also studied for a year with ACICIS in Java and spent a lot of time in Bali so I'm familiar with culture. I'm really open to anything but heard teaching or with an NGO was the way to go. So any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

Hi Nina,
Welcome.
Obviously teaching English, but I think you could do better taking advantage of your Bachelor of Asian Studies in Indonesian. Ideally, if you could connect with an international enterprise in Bali, not necessarily Australian (but hopefully you may already have some connections there). You could make use, first of your proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia, but also your knowledge of the Indonesian society, culture, etc.: these are valuable assets for any international ventures, such as development projects in a variety of fields, private or public.
Anyway, just hang around for a while, keeping your ears and eyes open to different opportunities: if it's going to happen, something will happen sooner or later, something you probably had not thought of. Good luck. :)

Thanks guys.
No I actually studied at Murdoch. Did you get to study in China through that degree? Do you live in Bali? If you are what are you doing over there?

Hi nina, there was an option for studying abroad (in china) though I didn't elect to do such.. As I said, I dropped the asian studies portion 2yrs in to the degree. I don't speak any chinese now, though in that class I met my wife (well, who is now my wife) - she is indonesian, though has lived a long time in australia. I'm not in bali yet, we'll be moving there by the end of the year.
All the best with your move.

Hi Nina
If you look just to the right of the posted date for a post you will see the actual location of the person posting, well at least the location of their IP.
I don't think you will have a problem getting a teaching position if you are qualified, it just might be a bit more difficult if you are looking for Bali in particular (there is quite a queue!) - experience having taught elsewhere in Indonesia would stand you in good stead. So perhaps you should look at a position in Java/Sumatra, then approach schools in Bali. You could also try the international school in Lombok - Nusa Alam.

Hi there,
I am a portuguese girl and I am making arrangements to go to Bali for a couple of months and maybe find a job there (something simple, I speak 3 languages fluently, I could be a tour guide or similar).
Nonetheless, I am lost. Do I just enter the country? Do I need a Visa? Do I get it when I arrive...?
help! :)

SassyOz is correct, though.
Since you want to stay for "a couple of months" just get a 60 day tourist visa before you leave your country and forget the alternatives (VOA/extension hassle; overseas SosBud/sponsor/extension hassle)
