I plan to purchase a car soon after my arrival in Bali in October. Although no definite brands have been determined, in all probability will go for a 3 or 4 year old Kijang or Daihatsu. Would I be able to save money due to the larger market area by buying in Surabaya rather than Bali? Thanks, Don

My husband (a local) reckons it is cheaper to buy a vehicle in Surabaya, but I think you would have to weigh up the cost of flying/travelling to Surabaya, possibly staying a night, and driving back - fuel, ferry etc. Not convinced the savings would be that significant. But I'd be interested to hear your experiences what-ever you decide to do.

the price in surabaya is not that low compared to jakarta, but maybe a little lower than bali. Check it out on http://www.halomobil.com or http://www.bekas.com . Remember that you probably have to change the nrplate, without contacts it can be expensive.
