Welcome.
North Bali was a wise decision :)
tintin
Actually, North Bali, is actually South Bali, since "North" is always pointing in the direction of Gunung Agung.
Bert Vierstra
Aren't you confused with kelod (to the sea) and kaja (to the mountain) ?
tintin
No Bert, I am not confused. Kaja indeed means "to the mountain," but it orientates every Balinese lives, the direction toward God, more surely than the needle of a compass orientates Westerners' lives. Kaja is more than a physical place, as North is: it is a religious and cultural place. North or South means nothing to Balinese.
Bert Vierstra
Ok.
Sorry ABN, to steal your thread,
Interesting though, the spatial orientation of "the Balinese", and how this is weaved with religion.

Hello all,
We have purchased a property in north Bali, and wanted to share this information with this forum’s members and visitors. Our purchase actually occurred early in 2007, but we hesitated to make a post about it as we did not want to go against this forum’s rules in regards to advertising, nor did we feel it was pertinent to what this forum is about. This announcement we are making now is purely for informational and clarification purposes, as our property was recently erroneously attributed to someone else, someone who is not very popular on this forum, and Bert was kind enough to allow us to make this post, though it may skirt the advertising rule a bit, in order to set the record straight regarding the current ownership (they are ours) and hopefully put that issue at rest forever.
Over the past two years, my wife and I spent countless hours researching, investigating, reviewing and questioning the merits of, and location for, a “retirement” property. We, of course, wanted it to be in a place where we would like to visit often and hopefully end up at most of the year, but also desired to be able to derive a return from the investment for the periods when we were not there or before we moved there for our retirement, as retirement for us is still many years away. Having visited the south of Bali many times in the past to look at properties and villas without success in finding exactly what we wanted, we chose to make a trip to the north to check out some of the properties there. We immediately noticed the different pace of life in the north and found it very much to our liking, and after looking at many properties (hillside, rice paddy view, ocean view, ocean front etc.) we were certain that what we wanted lay in the north of Bali somewhere, exactly where was not immediately obvious though. Like many things in our lives, during this trip, we happened to be at the right place at the right time, and found that the mini-resort we were staying at, and using as the base for our property search (which we had also researched thoroughly through their extensive website and reviews by travelers and blogs etc, and also considered as a perfect model for what we were looking for), was for sale, and the rest is as they say, history. Within a short time after our visit, we were the owners of our own piece of paradise, one that met all our somewhat demanding criteria and more.
We are frequent visitors (if not contributors) to this forum and find it, mostly, very informative and supportive of expat lives and living styles on the island, and it played a big part in our making the decision to invest in Bali and plans regarding our future there (and continues to do so). We have been visiting it regularly and gleaning, useful and informative, bits and pieces from its posts over the past couple years. It was pivotal in our decision to purchase a property in Bali to begin with, and we often did/do searches through the posts and find answers to almost all our questions here. With time and more learning and appreciation of Bali, we very much look forward to being able to someday contribute from our own experiences, and also to meeting many of the members.

Bert, no worries about the thread, it is nice learning that our villas are actually in the south of Bali, and perhaps as such their value has increased three fold or more! That is great news.
Ct, Thanks. To us they are heavenly, and we own the whole shebang (the full resort). There are three villas (identical), a temple, a swimming pool, a sea spa, a beach front restaurant, staff quarters/management building, etc. I must say again, I am hesitant to sing its praises here because I do not want to seem to be advertising or promoting the resort as it is against the rules of this forum, but anything I say about them can be construed as "promotion" because we are the owners and the resort is a business entity, so it is a catch-22 of sorts. I will answer as best I can, and am sure that Bert will give the signal when the line has been crossed.

Of course it's advertising.
What else would you call it??

P.s. They are lovely, I almost stayed there a few years ago, but couldn't get a booking.

I am sure you know yourself 8) And soon you will join the discussions on / about life in Bali....
But indeed, I have been there myself once to pick up clients, and it had a good feel. No I didn't take pics

Hi bolli, thanks for the plug!
Hello Tina, thank you for the welcome.
Thorsten
Wasn't it owned by Mr. MA once?
ABN
Hi Allan, Thanks for the welcome. As everything, it comes down to personal preferences, for us the north (magnetic) has what we were looking for. We currently live in a place with high population density, ultra modern and in the advancing stages of losing its traditional culture, in comparison, the north of Bali is quite the opposite.
Hi Thorsten, yes it was, but that is in the past and done with.

Hi ABN
Welcome to the forum. I have to say Iam a little jelous with you. You have just start living my dream. I hope I can have my oen place not to fare in the future
ABN
Hello Ilu, and it is great being here, thank you. Don't be jealous, but maybe look at it as "they can do it, so can I". I am sure that like many forum members and visitors, we too had the dream of owning a villa on Bali for a long time, and we looked and searched and learned about how it can be done. Especially from this forum we read that many people did it, mostly with great success, some with difficulties, and we took steps to reduce our risks and maximize our satisfaction. Wishing you success in achieving your dream very soon!
Ilu
Hi again. I am not jealous in a bad way. I will deffenatly say to myself that "if they can do it, so can I". everytime I see that someone can live their dream, it push me even more to manage to forfill my own dream. I need to heare storeys like yours. So Thank you
