Balilife - Warisan does a good foi gras, also tried a goose liver dish at The Living Room last week that was pretty damn good as well. 'Venue at the Moon' has a great goose liver tapas dish.
You just got to get out of Jimbaran occasionally and go to where the real restaurants are...

BaliLife, yes of course, the price is each. You can have your choice of Baked/Mashed/Rosemary/Roesti Potatoes, Fries or Rice as well. Tuna, Snapper or Salmon Steak they serve too, similar price range.
bolli: Hm, Flying Piano surely doesn't beat Warisan, KuDeTa or Living Room standards, but then - the price seems to me more affordable for everyday's budget dining.
But hey - it's a free world, so everyone should get what he pays for. ;-)
bolli
I could not afford to eat at places like Warisan every night , so good affordable places are essential.
I have been eating at the Flying Piano for many years but sad to say the quality and freshness has deteriorated to the point of having to go home and throw up.
Some excellent joints in same price range and area are
Seaside Cafe, real good rice paper duck rolls and coconut granitas. Just add a dash of bacardi
Tekor ..best dish for me --Thai coriander prawn salad
And for cheap but superb.. Wareong Asia in Double Six. mm mmm

RE: where to get a
...you probably just had too many free Arak Attacks? ;-)
Looks like we either have a different taste or the quality was really that much better a few years back, so that it's now disappointing for you.
No seriously, I don't want to defend The Flying Piano to the bone, only found it a while ago, tried it over the last 3-4 months about a dozen times, where I couldn't experience any of the described symptoms.
This happens anyway rarely for me, maybe in the cheaper places in Poppies Lane or for instance PocoLoco, where I had once aweful food quality. Didn't go a second time though. :)
Anyway, I will check out the other places you mentioned - it's always good to try out something new for variety...

i can remember having to book 2 nights ahead at Poco Locos back in the mid to late 90s. The joint was always chocas. Went there last month and it was like ghost town at 9.00pm on a saturday night. Wonder what happened. No sign of the little guy or was it a chick complete with sombrero flogging testube shooters either ?
bolli
I think that guy/chick passed away.

oh. Maybe the reason for the slide in biz.
That's not very good news Boli. Didi they get the gender ? I mean what went on at the funeral... just interested thats all.

I tried yesterday the new 'Chat Cafe' at the corner of Jl Kunti II and Sunset Road.
Looks promising!
Had the Kasseler Steak with Sauerkraut and Mashed Potatoes. (Kasseler Steak is a german dish - salted cooked pork, shortly pan-fried). Price tag: 28.000 plus tax. Delicious and very good value for money.
They offer Sirloin Steak as well for 34.000 if I'm not wrong. Have to try the next time.
The other things we tried were Rucola Salad, Ox-Tail-Soup and Cold Cut Platter (nice - a bit small, but only 15.000). Peppermint Ice Tea for 7.000. Bintang Kecil 11.000. Small Pizzas for 15-18.000. The Hawai Pizza was okay, but it's more like a small snack than a full-blown pizza.
Too bad they don't serve breakfast 24 hours. Nice selection and very affordable. We came after 2pm, just woken up, so it had to be something else.
Free Wifi Internet with acceptable speed (I tried only with PDA, but they have 2 computers as well you can use for free).
Definitely we will go again, sitting outside seems a bit noisy and dusty, but inside they have AC and nice music.

If you ever get to Lovina, try the steak in Kwizien:

But, it all has changed now in Kwizien. Its not owned by a Belgian guy anymore, no more Belgian beers ... It has been renovated, now with AC inside, and the whole menu has changed.

Couldn't agree with you more, spitfire
For the DIY evenings: Steaks from Carrefour on your own charcoal fire!...
Great way to go, unless one wants the 'trappings' of beautiful waitresses, handsome waiters, 'live music', and a bar that might be better stocked than the one in your garden.
They don't call you 'spitfire' for nothing.

Sanurian,
Further to your note about beautiful waitresses, I noticed that isn't a trent in bali.. What I mean is.. Here in canada there are notorious places (nice places with mains between 11 - 25 bucks), they're notorious because all the waitresses are always dam georgeous.. Now, I know in bali it wouldn't be hard to find 6 or so pretty gals (even though beauty is subjective) and hire them at 1 restaurant.. I've never found that over there.. The places in canada I refer to include cactus and earls..

I'm not sure what you're getting at by that comment. One can rent/hire just about anything in Bali, if needs be.
'Cactus and earls', huh? They're here, too...

I reckon someone needs to open up a nice place in bali where all staff are in bikinis.. Could call it bikini joe's.. Burgers, wings and other sins..
