Hi Roy,First, Happy Galungan and Kuningan to you and your family. :D :D I will hope that my few following remarks will not be taken as criticism, as they are just prompted by my curiosity doubled with a dose of skepticism. These last exchanges finally prompted me to ask and comment. You have shown (as if it had to be shown?) that you are a man with his head on his shoulder (although sometime, that head blows up from atop its shoulders), and with an IQ certainly much higher than your body temperature. By you own account, you have been in Bali for seven years, more integrated into the Balinese society than most expats, by living 24/7 among a village that has accepted you, warts and all. Your wife is Balinese, your family is Balinese, and as a result you spent most of your time submersed in the Balinese culture. You are active in your village's life. You are most interested in everything Balinese, knowledgeable about the Balinese culture, and are a strong defender of eveything Balinese. But how can you understand the nitty-gritties of your dear Balinese culture if you cannot communicate in the language? According to you, and from what I have seen over the years on different forums, not only you do not speak (and understand little?) Balinese, but neither are you proficient in Indonesian (!?) Are you pulling our "collective leg" or what?Personally, I am ashamed of my (lack of) proficiency in bahasa Indonesia. My only excuse is that during all the years I was working in Bali, my office colleagues always insisted in speaking English to me, even when I answered them in Indonesian, and this is NOT the way to learn a language. After a while, I went along in abstaining to speak Indonesian to them, which meant most of my day, with dear and lasting consequences. By my standards, by now, I should be able to read any work of Indonesian literature, as I able to do in French, English, and Spanish, but I am not able to. But in your case, I would assume that most of your relatives do not speak English, at least fluently enough to express themselves well enough during important discussions. How do you handle this?I hope you appreciate my skepticism, which I am sure is shared by many, here, on this forum. I also hope I was not out on bond in raising this subject. Should I be, I owe you one (or two) next time I meet you. But actually, I think you are just pulling our "collective leg." :) :)

Bert,Maafkan saya! :) :)
Roy

Re: RE: selamat hari raya galungan dan kuninganhey.....lam kenal kadek!!!sudah berapa lama tinggal di negeri orang???gimana rasanya klu hari raya gak pulang ke BALI,,,,kadek asli mana sich????
Halo Dewi,Maaf kelamaan balasnya. Galungan disini, biasanya cuman bikin sedikit banten saja. Minggu lalu juga saya harus kerja, tapi sempatkan mebanten and sembahyang pagi sebelum berangkat kerja.Tapi, karena disini ada Tante jadi lumayanlah. Tante pintar masak, jadi semua makanan Galungan pasti ada. :D Dan kemarin juga dapet beli Durian - jadi rasanya lebih enak deh   Bagaimana Galungan disana? Eh, Dewi merayakan Pagerwesi atau Galungan?SalamKadek

Halo, Dewi... Salam semuanya. Sari
