Jual
G'day, This is probably a dumb question to those in the know, but what's the difference between a villa and a house in Bali? Is it the same as in Australia? Common ground entry/exit etc? When I view the real estate photos I can't see any other buildings etc when looking at villas. Is it just clever photography? Thanks in advance.

No. It all depends on the house, and the villa being compared. There are some awesome houses, actually mansions in Denpasar, and then again, there are some awesome villas elsewhere in Bali. Once again though, I’d rather leave this to the sage words of Bert and others.

Hey Jual, welcome to the forum. Don’t be surprised if some of the Indonesian members of this forum have a little fun with your name.
There are several architects/builders and real estate people on this forum as regular members who will surely answer your question in a definitive manner, but for me, the distinction of a house and a villa is clear.
For me a villa is a living environment that blends both the out of doors and the in doors in a harmonious manner that when done really well, one can hardly tell the difference.
For me a house is a living environment of connected rooms which can be easily sealed from the out doors. In the dead of winter in Connecticut, I wouldn’t want to be living in a villa. On the other hand, in Bali, I can’t imagine living in a house.
Anyway, that’s how I distinguish the two, but other posters will have their ideas.

Thanks Roy, I think I get the picture. So being a villa does not necessarily mean it's on shared land? I better get in early; what's the meaning of "Jual" in Indonesian?
Roy
No, I’ve never heard the use of the term villa as a designation of shared land. In bahasa Indonesia jual means sell or sale.

My Ideal "Villa" has a front porch leading to a courtyard with a fishpond and trees (open air) leading to to the rooms of the courtyard. On the upstairs there would be a verandah on which the roof over hangs where each bedroom would lead to.
I can then sit out and dring my evening aperitif or have meals al fresco.
Heaven awaits those who dream.

Where I live to find a villa you simply listen for the 24 Euro disco - bumpa, ba bumpa, ba bumpa.
