Hi Paul, and welcome to the forum. While in my export business from Bali, I never ship 20 or 40 foot containers, many of my closest friends do on a regular basis. Sadly, the costs for containers out of Bali (Surabaya) have doubled in the past few years.
The quote you received is on par with the average for "incidental" container shipping. A discount of up to 20% is usual if one is shipping a sizable number per year.
Incidentally - Our rate is US$2650 for 40ft to Southampton. !!
Is that a port to port rate? Does it include terminal handling, port service, container stuffing, pickup and cartage to wharf, export customs clearance, documentation, handling, bill of lading fees or any other export charges?
If not, how much are these extra charges? Does the Indonesian cargo company have an agent in U.K. and if so, what will he be up for in import charges, customs clearance, de-stuffing, delivery, etc.
I don't need to know the answers to the above, but if Paul is really doing his homework, he'll be asking these questions, before agreeing to ship with any cargo company.

All up a 20' container from China to Brisbane was $9000.00 AUSD.
All up a 20' container from Bali to Brisbane costs around $7000.00 AUS$ that's with all the charges including Bali charges and australian government charges
