I've been to several dentists here on the island. One down south that cost a bit but was better equipped than any quack I'd been to in either the UK or Germany and, on the hole (pun intended), did a reasonable job. The next one I went to was attached to a local clinic in Candi. Now number 2 I went to 3 times because the filling he'd replaced fell out 2 hours after I'd left his presence on each occasion. I finally gave up and carry the hole to this day. On both occasions the quack didn't bother to give me any anesthetic before drilling, although I'm used to having it for almost any excuse (being a bit of a pussy). Now I'm on BPJS and the questions are:Is that typical here?Is anesthetic expensive and that's why they don't use it?Don't they know how?I probably need a couple of crowns and a patch job but I've also heard that some people bring their own glue!? as the local shite doesn't do it's intended job, which quack No. 2 would tend to prove.

I had this Indonesian worker for many years. Every time there was a moldy or wet wall he said he can paint it. I asked "why is wet in the first place?" he just shrugged and painted over it. Later - as it was getting worse - he bought some wood and cover the mould and then painted it.I have the feeling this is how most of the Indonesian treat their teeth as well. Nobody really tries to find out why something is falling apart. Try to get a good (!) X-Ray picture somewhere (Singapore?) and keep it. Indonesian dentists aren't bad but you must give them a helping hand. I lost two teeth there and I'm sure I would still have them if I would live elsewhere...Bali Dental Clinic 911 - Gatot Subroto Barat 367 - was pretty good (except they didn't find caries they can't see )

Very considerate of you but I'm gonna go closer to home here in the east.
Markit, I had posted back in 2020 seeking a dentist and finished up going to Dokter Gigi Drg Kadek Sugianitri, M, Biomed JL Danau Poso 50 Sanur.Like many people I hate going to the dentist and would drive from one end of Bali to the other if I knew that's where I would get the better dentist.Going to a conveniently located dentist rather than a better dentist seems like preferring pain to convenience. But they're your teeth so I hope it works out well for you. Let us all know about the end result.

I doubt that the best qualified dentist will choose the jungle vs the more "profitable" South...
You/I might be surprised. I know a number of professionals that when I question their staying here in the "jungle" job wise they agree that the money is in the south but their families are here and the commute is a killer. As I'm sure you know the Balinese are very, very home bound.

I've taken the plunge and made an appointment by the local BPJS tooth man for Tuesday. Wish me luck.

To answer the Wise one from the East.I used Bali 911 in Denpasar the last time I was there , which coincidentally was the last time a met with you, and they were good. The equipment was good but the booties thing over you shoes and then allowing you outside and back in with them on was a bit of a joke hygiene wise..Not cheap but good.Good luck with the wild men from the jungles of Candidasa working on your teeth.CheersKen

Had the last of 3 broken teeth (age and babi guling related) done today and I'm astonished at how good they were!We are with Bali Med for our health coverage and therefore dentistry goes with it.The young dentist knew his stuff, the offices and surgery were clean and organised and the help were cheerful and actually helpful.First 2 teeth were done on Tuesday - my appointment was for 9 and guess who forgot completely until 11? Rushed to get there and apologize and reschedule but to my surprise they agreed to see me anyway and took an hour to do both teeth. Most of the visit costs were covered by BPJS but because I voted for the better material (harder enamel, doesn't break so easily - watch babi guling here I come!) there was a charge of IDR350k. Today because the tooth in question was a molar the charge was 300k and took also about an hour. All in all I was impressed but, of course, the most impressive thing will be if the repairs hold. I tried having one of the teeth repaired at the clinic near Padang Bai a couple of years ago and had to go beck 3 time when it fell out each time until I finally gave up. Time will tell.

I mean, at 71 I don't need a 25 year guaranty...3 others, in the back were declared "beyond repair", so they will quietly (I hope) rot away. For me it was mainly an "esthetic" operation in order to keep the "latin lover" smile when in Casablanca !
