Just passing thru and saw the Aluminum King's post. I have known different families here over the years, since I've come and gone from Bali, so I have my experiences, but would love to hear other peoples thoughts about this subject too!

I've always seen the Eurovision song contest much like I view the EU - a talent-less group of "elites" that someone has given a platform to to try and convince the rest of us citizens that they know where the caravan is going and we should all follow. All lights and noise but no concepts and very, very expensive when nobody has any money.

It's just a lot of theatrics, with the lights, costumes, smoke, etc. I don't believe in a Devil, so I really don't give a shite. But I wouldn't waste a Dime to go to see this! These people doing this, wouldn't last a day, lost in the forest!

But increasingly it seems Eurovision has become a hangout for the weird who want to parade their troubled souls in front of the whole world. What a loss that Terry Wogan is no more. I've been in and out and around here for 34 years and let's say that this group as it has been described to me, has a different flavor to the Balinese than what they have historically experienced from tourist. They find it offensive and say that the hotline is a response to that. We all should remember than regardless how long we have been here, we are still guests.

We all should remember than regardless how long we have been here, we are still guests.[/QUOTE]Again, when you have a large community, you will have a certain percentage of bad apples.I remember in Europe when we blamed the Arabs, now it are the Chinese...Personally there were several Russian families staying at the ressort I live in, all decent people with 1 or 2 kids. All polite. Obviously not the poor farmer type.I have known Russians in Pattaya,.sure way worse than what we see here.And don't forget the history of their country,.say the last 50 years. Same as the Chinese, it is the same thing.And by the way, MANY Aussies have a behaviour that for a normal civilized European is quite shocking.Shirtless in restaurants, loud, walking around or in shops with a beer in their hand (include women), speaking with their horrible accent to the locals and surprised they are not understood.....
