I see a side article in that link referring back to passengers being able to bring 2.25 litres alcohol duty free at the beginning of 2022. What is the status of the idea now? I get the impression this is impossible in Bali. Not sure about elsewhere.

Are there any governments around the world that use Whatsapp for a hotline? Just seems strange to me.

I'm gonna be making a lot of calls on this line about illegal fly-tippers, underage children on scooters, price gouging shops, lazy policemen, bad traffic, potholes, more children on scooters without helmets, illegal building, building against the regulations (1.5 meter upstand), demands for payments from anybody and anywhere, I could (and will) go on and on.

I'd take a guess and say it's aimed at a certain group of 'guests' who are hiding out in Bali as they don't want to participate in Mr Putins war and are opening businesses, treating the locals with disrespect, building enclaves on virgin land etc etc. Just a wild guess on my part mind you.

One more, after a big ceremony, leaving all the plastic water bottles, and wrappers, for sweets! On the ground!

It was and is wishful thinking. Information technology has had a profound impact on the way societies relate and exchange information but any communities whether they be remote in a jungle or a crowded city are prone to have the usual human complexities from love to spite and malicious often violent feuds. In Australia there are romantics who still have the notion that Aboriginal peoples lived in peaceful harmony with nature and the universe until a white invasion spoiled it all. The history of that invasion includes attempted genocide, theft murder and oppressing Aborigines. That is true. But pre the invasion there was not an Aboriginal nation as such but hundreds of tribes many of which were often engaged in hostilities. And within tribes the usual dynamics of human emotions and variety of personalities given to periods of harmony and disruption. Similarly I am sure that before the Dutch these same human features amongst the Balinese meant life was not just blissful and free of stress. This is not to say that constant change and development has not come without a significant and detrimental impact. But it is the same the world over. Ever changing and often for the worse. It is what it is.

I lived for 15 years in Germany and was sure that there was not a more peace and freedom loving democracy on the planet until I heard a Robin Williams bit on why the Germans aren't funny - his take was because they'd killed all the funny ones. My take was because all the warmongers, and Nazi scum were killed during WW2. Anyone with an aggressive bone in his body has long been ploughed under. The Chinese and Koreans still aren't so keen on the Japs.

But this does not contradict the point I am trying to make that most people are capable of actions ranging from sublime to pure evil. Or are you suggesting the terrible atrocities carried out by the marauding Japanese army during WW2 did not take place and are just fiction? I have had the advantage and privilege of having made many indigenous friends across a life span of more than 60 years and stayed in communities around Australia from remote to urban locations. Fundamentally , as with the rest of the population, Aboriginal people are prone to express the gamut of human emotions from love and care to rage and violence.
