$10 a month is a bargain surely? Admittedly I'm in Sydney but I think I pay something like $180 a month. I realise you can get covered for far less than that but I wanted all the bells and whistles including no gap when you go to hospital. So Markit why question $10 a month in Bali? What do you pay?

If you can get Australian insurance for &180 a month that is a good deal also if it covers you when you are out of the country. As I told you before if I wanted international coverage it would have been around $500 a month more or less. Remember BPJS doesn't cover all medications.

Markit, my Raggedy old ass doesn't want to go back to the States! Health problems can come wherever you are. I find it's about the same wherever you live in Bali. I had a nice cheap room in Padangbai that suited my needs. I had friends with a warung that spoke good English and a few westerners would stop by there, so my experience there was not so bad. You have to admit the roads are crowded now with so many people. Where I am now the roads are packed with Indonesians, not tourists. At least that's what I observed with my tiny mind as you say,

Shadrach my health insurance only covers me while I am in Australia. I have to take separate travel insurance which up until I turned 78 was relatively easy. I would just pay a portion of my travel costs on my credit card, say $250, and that was that. Now because of my age it's going to be much harder. Anyway we'll find a way.

A former Balipod member who has now gone to the great internet website in the sky set up a special bank account which he named "health insurance" into which he would pay an amount equivalent were he paying insurance. He did this to satisfy some immigration insurance requirement. So he then developed a cache of funds to use in case of emergency. I don't know how it worked out when the grim reaper called around to take him but would feel better to just have that reserve than paying impossibly expensive rates as you hit the 80s.

Yes when I was in the States I had the Medical insurance also. They paid for a very expensive surgery when I broke my femur bone in my leg. It was a very complicated surgery, they put a titanium rod all the way through the bone. All expense were covered and they did an excellent job. I also have BPJS now and yes it's affordable but I found they don't pay for quality medicine. Only low cost meds. I also found out from my Bali friend the Doctors and hospitals here have a different level for coverage if you pay cash or use BPJS. It seems if you use the insurance you are put at a lower level than if you pay cash, and get treated like lower class of people. That's a shame. I guess money talks and low class walks. It seems older people are not productive anymore, so we get tossed on the rubbish bin.

It is the job of the nurses here to arraign the right appointments with the correct doctors. They seem to have no communication between each of them and the staff at Siloam hospital to do this correctly. I ask to get this done and they keep referring to BPJS as if all decisions are based on them. I don't understand this. I thought the insurance company's job was just to pay, not control appointments and doctor visits. Everything seems topsy- turvy! As the song says my feet are too my head and my head is too my feet! Cuckoo, Cuckoo. Everything seems to be Jam Karet! Hippocrates would be sick if he was here today!

For each "new" illness you must return to the clinic where you are registered and after they've vetted you and discussed your problems (will probably take days with Shaddy) they then recommend which doctor you are sent to for evaluation and treatment. Keeps you from discussing your sex changes with the bone doctor or your rampant STD with the bed cleaner. An eminently practical system I thought? !

Something a bed cleaner might be responsible for, if they had sex with you!

Yesterday report: PBJS program is underfunded (and suffer to scam claims by health care providers)."National Health Insurance (JKN) claims started to pile up in 2023 for the non-profit agency, resulting in a deficit of Rp 7.4 trillion (US$473.8 million), or 4.8 percent of the total premium payments by members last year. The deficit is expected to rise to a record high this year as the number of people covered by the insurance amounts to more than 267 million, more than 95 percent of the population."https://www.thejakartapost.com/opinion/2024/01/23/raising-the-alarm-for-bpjs.html

I heard many countries in Europe have social insurance but charge citizens 40% tax. America charges less tax but has a very limited social health insurance policy. Mostly for the elderly. The hospitals charge outrageous prices for their services here and America and I assume everywhere. Here a room for the night cost me 1.8 Jt. The food was awful very unhealthy, the nurses hardly seen. In America they charge $10 for a bandaid! At least I can say the doctors in the States that I saw were professional and perform good work. I can't say that for many of the doctors here. This is an age old problem. We rely on our governments which are controlled by rich corporations and wealthy individuals! The pharmaceutical industry promotes their chemicals and control the doctors and hospitals. We are all under the thumb of the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, insurance, industries! Until the people wake up and unite to stop this madness we and the planet will forever be slaves and powerless. All the leaders are our new royalty, Off with their heads!

Dr. fee on the other hand was was reasonable at 250k.The forearm plaster cast was fitted at another gov. hospital in Sanur 3 days ago (that charged me 1.2 Juta). The job was not done properly as my daughter was unable to sleep due to pain from sharp edges and not shaped properly. I spotted the issues right away after comparing with examples found using google. So then we headed for another hospital to see if they could fix the issues -- which they did after some "coaching" from my side.Choosing the most expensive hospital in Bali will not work as the the dr. who fitted the plaster cast at the gov. hospital in Sanur also work at the most expensive private (tourist) hospitals like BIMC/Silom. Roll the dice healthcare.

I hurt my shoulder and went to the hospital in Klungkung and after multiple x-rays the doctor put a small cast on the outside of my arm and a sling to hold my arm up to my chest. It fixed absolutely nothing then I went to the big hospital with the international wing. The so called great bone doctor said it was a torn rotary cuff and did some micro surgery supposedly to fix it and I found out all he did was scrape some calcium deposit off and didn't fix anything. Now I cant lift my arm above my waist and the shoulder bone is all over the place and when it moves the muscles scrape over it and it hurts like hell. I went today to see a surgical cancer doctor at Siloam to take off some skin problems from too much sun. after two skin doctors said to go see her because she is a cancer surgeon. When I told her I had a stent put in three months ago which I have totally recovered from, she said she couldn't work on my skin due to the blood thinners the heart doctor told me to take. So after three doctors I spent 3.5 Jt. For transport, I received zero help with my skin except they gave me some cream to stop the itching. I give up, BPJS and the doctors win. I will not go back for more. I learned a long time ago that you can take a lit cigarette and burn the skin cancer off and it goes away. I already have done this before and it works! So good luck to all with the doctors and hospitals in Bali!

If you have a sun skin spot keep dabbing it with vinegar or a tea bag. When it dries up you can scratch it off. This advice from a fellow who used to roam the Sydney beaches spraying people with mutton bird oil for sun protection. Been a sun person all my life. Never used sun screens and never been to a doctor with supposed cancer spots. Had a classic symptom spot on my forehead. Bought a very expensive cream and saw that one of the ingredients was paw paw - papaya. When the tiny tube of cream was finished I did not buy another, just wiped with papaya. The layer inside adjacent to the papaya skin has proven benefits for wounds etc so I used a wipe of this if have a cut or something or other.

It sounds like you have better skin than me. I have the luck of the Irish with this. I found when I have the small crusty spots and scrape them off, they tend to return in a week or so. Aloe vera helps a little but doesn't stop the problem. I got so frustrated yesterday when the so called cancer surgeon specialist, said go to another doctor and receive more talking bullshit when she was supposed to be a cancer doctor that does surgery and passed me off to another doctor that just sits on their ass in an office and gives you the so called consultation to the road to nowhere I felt I understand how a person can snap and just start shooting. It would rid the world of these bullshit artists! Of course that was just a moment of insanity and there are no guns here, but the thought really made me feel good! I will just go to the local witch doctor and get some snake oil and magic fairy dust to cure my ailment!
