In late July 2023 I retired (amicably), after 30 years of working full time in Indonesia (Pool construction). The company (Australian & Indonesian wife), would each year supply me with a 1 year KITAS (work permit). After giving 1 months written notice, I had to cancel my final KITAS the day prior to its expiry by leaving the country for 3 working days and re-entering on another visa. The company (owners), never said "thanks", "goodbye", nor paid one Rupiah of severance pay on my retirement. They even refused to pay for the ticket to leave the country as I left on the 22nd of the month whilst my salary was paid to the end of the month.I discussed the matter of severance with the owner a year or so previously and he told me that as each year I got a new KITAS it was a year contract. Technically I only worked for them for one year at a time, and any severance I received on retiring from the company would be at his discretion.Anyway, you can imagine I'm a bit disappointed, as my relationship with the owners' and their family, the company and staff was pretty good the whole 30 years. Its not so much the money part (though a little something would have been nice, after 30 years), but a little empathy and respect would have been appreciated. The help part: Does anybody have a connection who would know the legal ins and outs or has faced a similar situation? Listerine isn't doing the job!

Sorry to say I have no legal knowledge available in your situation nor direction to those that do. What occurs to me is that you obviously have the knowledge and capability to set up some fierce competition at a time when this particular area of construction should be booming. With the know how to manage such an operation and instruct capable personnel why not start your own company? Most new start ups require substantial capital, but does this sort of operation require more than material?

This poor fecker has just worked 30 years in the heat of Bali and you think he should start right in again. You just go right on and enjoy your retirement (we might need some swimming pool advice now and again, but that's not working is it? ) I would suggest you join Farcebook page "Law and regulations in Indonesia" there's some extremely knowledgeable people in it and they'll have an answer for you.

You are entitled to what is in your contract, but something dose not smell right. Company is the only one that can cancel a work permit and kitas and should supply a EPO.

Why not exploit what a person knows, and how could a pension exist being a grunt in Bali as a foreigner?

This poor "fecker" actually didn't always work in the heat of Bali, in fact got to travel extensively throughout the archipelago in some incredible isles that most have never heard of. Plus Yap (Micronesia) and Hanoi.

Obviously not as familiar as yourself "mate?" with being able to gain a pension while working in Bali. Is that derived from reporting income to Bali or Australia?
