Thousands of locals are mad and want to halt a new cliff resort development (Neano resort next to Candi Dasa) infringing on a Pura and "sacred" area. The locals broke into the construction site and caused damage for a couple of Milyar for good measure. There are temples on every extreme cliff to protect the Balinese from evil sea spirits. So how in the world could the local authorities approve a project like this with a massive and ugly concrete development? Maybe they have looked at what their Badung counterparts got away with?Apparently the owner is a Czech company as per link below. Selling 1 bedroom "villa" for 3 Milyar(!) and they have included the following bold statement in their prospect: "We will provide everything you need to ensure that the villa is always in flawless condition, profitable in times of rental, and is always perfectly prepared for the arrival of its landlord". The guys supplying the materials to the site and the ones doing the burning are just different factions of the local gov in Bugbug ( a super religious, quite wealthy village on the other mountain side from Candidasa) that can't seem to agree on development for most of the beach areas including Virgin beach. In an attempt to win over the hardliners all the village religious installation such as temples, statues, gates and the much improved entrance to the Gumang temple with all its monkeys have recently been improved, renovated and renewed. Clearly too little, too late.
