Also surprising was the conservative muslim VP Ma'ruf Amin calling for the review of a fatwa regarding the medical use of marijuana, with a view to potentially ending its prohibition. Perhaps he did this on behalf of his boss the president, but in any case this development is a small but significant crack in the armour of current policy. No doubt some farmers in Aceh will be pretty happy about these developments, but it's obviously far too soon for them (or any wannabe stoners) to celebrate.
