It seems Indonesia might be following Thailand's lead.Indonesia has gone so far in such a short period of time in regards to attitudes towards medical marijuana.Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin yesterday said the government is close to passing regulations allowing for research into medical uses of the illegal plant."We are evaluating it. Soon regulations for medical purposes will be issued," Budi said, without specifying a date."Morphine is stronger than marijuana, but it's used medically. Marijuana is a lot like morphine in that regard, and morphine has its benefits."https://coconuts.co/jakarta/news/indonesia-to-issue-regulations-on-medical-marijuana-research-health-minister/?mc_cid=acdc54f4e6

Also surprising was the conservative muslim VP Ma'ruf Amin calling for the review of a fatwa regarding the medical use of marijuana, with a view to potentially ending its prohibition. Perhaps he did this on behalf of his boss the president, but in any case this development is a small but significant crack in the armour of current policy. No doubt some farmers in Aceh will be pretty happy about these developments, but it's obviously far too soon for them (or any wannabe stoners) to celebrate.
