I am Belgian, who fell in Love with Bali. After visiting several times as a turis, I decided to come over and live here. I want to build (get build) a house here and retire. Would there be any one who knows a trustworthy person/organization who can check legally the composition and strength of the concrete that will be used? Region: Tabanan.

Kristof when I built 14 years ago I had to go all over the island to find a concrete vibrator, standard for construction in the West, but absolutely not here. I put up with days of hearsay "they have one" or "nah not here" to "not in Indonesia, we don't need that here". Until I finally found one down south somewhere. Sorry I don't remember where. I don't think things have changed at all. A couple of years ago when they had the big earthquakes on Lombok that killed thousands (2018?) and we had hundreds of shocks here too all my neighbors had walls cracking and lots of broken roofing. I had nothing, nada, nichts and I'm sure it was due to using the vibrator on my foundations, controlling the cement mix and lots and lots of extra rebar. You can take the boy out of California but you can't take California out of the boy. My advice, if you want it: don't build anything, just buy something that was built prior to 2018 that hasn't got any cracks.

I will need to double check who did it (I think it may have been Udayana University). But the short answer to your question is yes, reliable concrete testing is available in Bali. That was a good post back then 2011, so hands up who has used a concrete truck on any build in the last 10 years?

I got 30 locals, 2 cement mixers and Down's syndrome guy from the next village to do mine.

The more economical big trucks unfortunately could not negotiate the relatively steep road gradients in my area.
