The surge in coronavirus cases has reached a new level in Indonesia with daily rises averaging over 3,000 as the country is heading into what seems to be the toughest month so far in the outbreak. It reported 3,269 new cases on Friday -- the third day in a row that daily total has exceeded 3,000 -- for a total of 187,537 cases. While many Asian countries have been past their peak or in the second wave of new transmission, the curve in Indonesia has been experiencing an upward trend since first cases were detected in early March and it remains in the dark about reaching the peak seven months into the outbreak.https://jakartaglobe.id/news/indonesia-adds-3200-coronavirus-cases-surge-continues-in-bali

One of my staff was found Corona positive and will be getting out of hospital in a few days we hope. How it was dealt with was an eye-opener for me: first he went to hospital complaining of stomach problems after one of the Balinese group feeding frenzy with tuak and they gave him some antibiotics and sent him on his way - all normal so far. Next he came back a few (3/4) days later with the same issue and they ran some tests on him, corona being one of them - all negative. He should have been in the best of health according to all the tests so they sent him packing again with some more antibiotics. Symptoms don't improve and then he gets head ache, fever and breathing problems (chest pains). So they test him this time just for Rona and guess what? Positive and immediately into isolation ward in hospital with one other person, who promptly dies - not what you want to have happen when you're just placed on the ward. 2 weeks later and 3 tests he should get out in a day or 2. Family and friends not tested but fam told to self isolate. Follow up looking for other infected "0". Make of this what you will. Staff suspects he was infected in hospital when he first appeared with stomach trouble. I think that absolutely no one has clue 1 what they are doing either here or the west. It's all "learning by doing" and anyone that suspects that it's all being run by adults is fooling themselves and none of us is the wiser.

Do you mind me asking the age of your staff please? Just saw on the news in UK corona virus seems to be affecting a lot of younger age groups lately
He's the ripe old (for Balinese) age of 38. Thankfully he's home and in the bosom of his fam today with still 14 days of self iso to get through. Apparently lots of new cases on the ward with Rona - reason why he was sent packing I suspect. Will ask about ages when I next chat with him.

Bad luck for your staff. Not what I wanted to hear. We are wanting to come back in late November but from what i am reading not to sure if that is a wise move. Roll the dice and come over or stay is Oz for another 6-12 months and hope for a vaccine.Another glass of red and ponder...

I suspect it is much easier to isolate yourself from other people here if you choose. My wife and I don't see anyone other than at a distance and outside unless we want to, and that is of course masked.

Mrs family in Karangesm city (approx area) seems to be hit. Grandma fever all night extreme asthma, cold and flu symptoms can't taste food, mum about the same hasn't been able to get out of bed for or barely eat for 2 weeks now, says she suffers "bad asthma type symptoms" just walking to fridge etc.Mum Seems slowly on path to recovery. I don't know if Grandma will pull through or not yet. Very slow process already going like this 2.5 weeks, family warung closed and a long path ahead. The younger members of the family suffered heavy cold and flu symptoms, can't taste food, massive re occurring headaches but are still active. I will edit and update with ages once I know. They have been to dr a few times, didn't get the test but diagnosed with suspected COVIT, given antibiotics, panadol and proper cold and flu tablets (pseduo ephedrine base). Mrs has already had a few "neighbours" in Karangesm die of COVIT-19.Due to my asthma and what I'd describe as post covit slightly worse for wear health state, I think I will have to postpone my return for quite some months now even if the border opens.Stay safe everyone. Wasn't sure weather to share but thinking of it as public safety information and an insight for the rest of you in Australia and other countries who are looking to get back.Edit ages:Grandma: 65Mum: 45Interestingly dad is in his 40's also and has been in close contact and nothing, healthy Children 22 - young (6 or 7) all had like a really bad cold on the way back to normal now

Yes, it seems like community transmission is high now in Bali and probably worse than the government stats being put out. In our area a 10 year old boy apparently died of Covid. Unfortunately some businesses and public pools opening up, which shouldn't be happening.

With Jakarta about to go back into lock-down I wonder what is the present view then about Bali being open to domestic tourism?

Probably because no fam allowed in or to visit. They are the "normal" care givers in the usual system. Get Granny to Bali Med!Mum Seems slowly on path to recovery. Mark IT - Sibetan, will edit to a more in depth reply tomorrow, guilty of having a few tonight mate!Update: Great news, mum is out of bed and on the road to recovery, mrs also feeling much better seems a lot more energetic and back going about her daily activities.Mark IT grandma has some type of health insurance so ducks in and out of the hospital on the nebuliser. I am unsure of her current condition I think still sick as she mostly stays in different region to the rest of family. RE if I have had COVIT or not I really don't know, in February I once returned from Bali and my lungs were all blocked, no energy, lethargic and all that sort of thing was like bad asthma, bad cold but it passed in a few days. Also had a pretty hardcore cough. Hard to say as I smoked a lot that trip (I don't usually smoke these days), so maybe I should get the test? Free here in Australia anyway. Was referring to putting on a bit of weight and not being in quite the shape I should be, eg immune might not be quite up to scratch. But I am working on that, start physio again next week.

UPDATE: big improvement for everyone almost back to normal, just lingering cough and grandma still a bit sick not as bad.I don't know if it was corona-virus or not can't say for sure, symptoms very similar. Happy they are all getting better! Back on track to get back over when and if the border finally opens!

What with with spikes, lockdowns followed by opening up again and then perhaps spikes again later there seems a fair chance that sooner or later most of us may have some form of contact. Most of us will not fall ill with the virus and those that due will survive. By the way it is interesting to note how similar the Covid symptoms are to Dengue Fever and I can imagine one might easily be misdiagnosed and treated for Covid. And vice versa. But here is some information to tuck away that may be of value should we have difficulties with Covid symptoms. Good luck.

Almost a second lockdown? https://coconuts.co/bali/news/bali-to-restore-stronger-restrictions-following-surge-in-covid-19-cases/ I'm really in 2 minds weather to try and get back or wait a few months?Personally not a fan of locking/closing everything but it seems when domestic borders opened over there infections did rise, or am I mistaken?Force my way through a travel exemption or just sit back and wait a few more months when I haven't seen my Mrs since March? Must be people who this has impacted even worse than me? Feeling a little trapped in Western Australia.

So I'm pretty sure most people can pick up a visa in their home country at the embassy. Doesn't apply to all countries but I know a bunch of Europeans that just flew in on social visas. and 1 Australian on a business visa. The death rate is still less than the flu. The pandemic is over. Check the stats of all the other countries suffering a new spike in infections. Infections are up but deaths have been going way down since April/May and now it's down to around flu levels. That's not a pandemic in my opinion.Come on over, grab yourself a cold bintang and enjoy the empty beaches while they last. (don't forget to wear a mask though :)

Some places started opening up like public pools, which shouldn't be happening. Schools are still closed. Many people wear masks which is a positive, but you see many with it pulled down under their chin. Traffic on the main road near my place seems like normal. I think it is safe to be here if you socially distance and wear a mask. But since little is enforced here, you might be tempted to go out to bars/restaurants, which in my opinion should still be avoided for now.
I take your point JackStraw. Those graphs are pretty clear. It wouls certainly appear that death rate is down. I wonder if it's because the more vulnerable are being more careful about there movements. Or, and I hope I'm out of order here, maybe the more vulnerable are no longer with us.
