Hey everyone! My name is Melanie and my boyfriend Brendon and I are planning to relocate to Bali in the coming months.I am beyond excited and also nervous about making the leap of faith.A little about us.. we both work FIFO in QLD on a week on week off roster but are about to start job share and move to a 3 weeks off 1 week on roster to relocate to Bali for our days off.I've started to research the best living arrangement options and I feel like a yearly rental is a good fit.I have had holidays in Bali many times and love the Canguu / Berawa area the most. We love being active with; CrossFit, yoga, gym, surfing and anything else we can give a go. I eat vegan and my boyfriend likes big meaty meals... so we'll probable eat alone haha.I have heaps of questions to help me make the transition easier... I would love any tips thrown at me on organising the big move.Thank you for taking the time to read my thread xxMelanie And Brendon

Hi Melanie. I am new here too but already searching these forums has answered or given me a lot of insight into the questions I have about living in Bali and whether long term/fulltime/partime, and how everything works (or not) over there. I don't claim to be an expert on the strength of 7 months living there spread over 3 years, but I will say there is often no simple answer in Indonesia. The answers often change with who you talk to, and time. Government regulations are always changing or interepreted in different ways. You often get different answers to the same questions, so do really thorough research!Aurora

Good afternoon Melanie. I guess you are aware that it is usual to pay for the full rental period in advance rather than monthly payments. One area of deliberation that will be challenging is to what to bring and what to discard. Looking at this two and a half years ago and reading many posts both here and on the Expatindo.org website I took the advice that trying to forward stuff by freight was extremely complicted and expensive. The general view seemed to be better to bring whatever you can as personal baggage and buy basic items when here. My wife and I had reasons for several visits and, using maximum baggage allowance, all up we moved just under 400 kilos of stuff. If you are continuing on a fly in fly out work system that gives you great opportunity to bring more personal gear. We never had any trouble with customs but I would suggest that better not to buy new stuff bringing it in the original containers but rather use the items so they effectively are your personal gear.It is useful to bring a range of basic tools such as drills, spanners, saws etc but again, you probably are already planning that
